Your a big guy so I doubt the amount you have taken will have any adverse effects but if your pain is that severe or continuing I'd cut to the chase and get something more to the point than what your taking now. Prescription Motrin (Ibuprofen) usually prescribed as 800 mg, obviously works a whole lot better than trying to equal that in over the counter Motrin. For some reason they just don't equal out and the OC will never give the same relief of pain that the Rx stuff will. That's why it's by prescription. It's not a very expensive drug if you don't have insurance and works wonders for back pain with usually no more side effects that the OC stuff your taking now. However, it will help to eat a small snack with any ibuprofen to avoid digestive upset. You can sometimes call in to your doctor for this prescription without having to make a visit, especially if this is a reoccurring pain you've been seen for before. If you can't get in, an urgent care center can definitely help you out. Hope you feel better!

the max for ibuprofen is 800 mg every 8 hrs. This is prescription strength, which is the same as 4- 200 mg over the counter. so dont exceed 2400mg in 24 hrs. This dosage is only safe for a few days.

Ibuprofen is very hard on the stomach. That sounds like a lot but is probably ok for a couple of days. I'd call the doctor though so you can get some Vicodin and alternate that with the ibuprofen. That is what my doctor had us do recently.

you should take no more than 800mg (4 x 200mg over the counter strenghth) WITH FOOD 3 x per day. that's a total of 2400mg per 24 hours. even if you take 400mg at time, it shouldn't be every 3 hours. if you want to take 400 mg at a time, you can do it every 4 to 6 hours. don't take it on an empty stomach, it will damage your stomach.

if the back pain continues for more than a few days, you should see a doctor.

You need to cut that dosage in half and see a doctor. If your insurance will cover it, find a doctor that specializes in pain management. Selective epidural steroid injections or facet injections could help or permanently alleviate your back pain. It's a very quick procedure that can be done in an ambulatory care center or similar outpatient setting. Prolonged use of Aspirin and Ibuprofen may cause you even greater problems, consulting your doctor would be your best bet.

As big as you are and as short a time as you've taken it, there should be no problem, but there's a plateau effect to NSAID's, and more is not better after a certain point. You're at or a little past that point, and the longer you continue that dosing the greater your risk of adverse effects. Better to consult a physician, who may prescribe other analgesics.

My best advice would be to call the NHS direct helpline as it is my understanding you should only take 1200mg in any 24hr period.
