My mom had one in 1985 and again in 1989. For me and my sister both.

My first was in 1992, my daughter 9lb 10oz, big baby head downwards but facing the wrong way, so smallest part of head not presenting, hence 24 hour difficult labour ending in C-Section.

My second was in 1995, my son a 10 pounder, same prob big baby facing the wrong way, 12 hr labour then a burst bladder sent all the bleeps off on the machine, resulting in an emergency C-Section. Horrible afterwards, drugged up to the eyeballs not aware of what was happening or where my baby was for 24 hours!.

Still went on to have a third in 1997, still hoping for a normal birth but was advised against it on past history. Had my first awake C-Section and another 10lb+ boy (good job too as still needed forceps in through the stomache as he was stuck too) much better experience and a quicker recovery time after the op. I felt more involved and it was a half way house between being put under and having him naturally.

    Hope thats useful.

I had my c-section last year, but not by choice it was an emergency.

About the comment that once you have had one c-section, they all are after that, that is completely untrue. I asked after I had mine if that was true and was told as long as everything heals proplerly and that there are no other reasons to need one, there is no reason to have a c-section with the next baby. My Grandmother had 6 children, number 3 was a c-section, then numbers 4, 5, & 6 were all normal birth.

  • I had my first and only surgical birth in 1998. I've gone on to have 3 VBACs in 2000, 2002 and 2005 (at home!).

The reason the doctors and hospitals are refusing VBACs is all because of the insurance companies. It all comes down to money. Some doctors know the truth - that VBACs are safe and should be done, but their hands are tied because of big business.
