how long do i have to wait before i can visit the dr?

i came off the pill at the beginning of october 2006, since then we have been trying to get pregnant, i know this isnt a very long time to be trying but my cycles are very long, i've only had 3 periods since i stopped my pill, cycle is around 45 - 49 days long. i'm going to use ovulation strips this cycle as i heard long cycles can be caused by not ovulating. if i dont ovulate this cycle do i still have to try for a total of 12 months before seeing the doctor or can i go sooner?

You can make an appointment and see the doctor whenever you want. The issue really is how seriously he will take you. If you are still young then he may well send you home and tell you to try for longer. You might be able to persuade a sympathetic GP to run some tests.

They'll generally do anything to get rid of you asap, so if you keep going on about it, he might send you for some tests!

You can go any time you like to the doctors, it is a good idea to get a pre-conception check up. But yes you will have to have been trying for a year before they will do anything. I came off the Depo in Dec 2005 and started getting my periods back in July 06, mine too have been very long cycles. I actually managed to get pregnant on my last cycle but I miscarried at 5 weeks and I have only just been to the hospital for a referral from my doc and the hospital have still told me to keep trying for another 6 months before they will investigate so for me that will have been 2 years of trying. I have been taking my temps and LH tests everyday and found this very helpful as to know when I am ovulating if at all. I know how frustrating it is but you do have to give it time. Good Luck and all the best!

You may visit your gp as soon as you feel the need is there, and personally i would go and explain your situation to her maybe she can give a little proffesional advice to you to help you on your way and maybe some idea of why your cycle isnt normal,But you will not be reffered to a fertility speacilist untill 12-18 months of trying with nothing thats why it may be better to see your gp now then you always have that as a refrence to them to show you have been trying for such a amount of time if you see what i mean.To be honest coming off the pill your cycles should be back to normal eg:21-35 days min or max after the first month even if your not ovulating truely again yet,Docters put woman with unusual cycles onto the pill to try and regulate them so this may be worth bareing in mind!

You can go see the doctor now but they wont do anything till you have been trying for a year. It takes a long time for your cycle to get back to normal after coming off the pill. Its something like one month for every year you have been on it

i would give your body 6 months to get back to normal, if by then there have been no signs of ovulation then go and visit your doctor, hopefully when you test this month you can discover ovulation and it will put your mind at ease. i have been trying to conceive for 6 months now and i was not on the pill so its goes to show that it might not be the pill that's put off conceiving. good luck, baby dust to you xxx

don't be in such a rush. It can take up to 12 months for your cycle to get backt o normal after coming off hte pill. Getting stressed won't help the ovulation either. just be patient for a bit longer.

Hi, i have to same prb, so i went to the docs just after ayr and told them what be going on. They then send me for a scan and took some blood and different times off the month to see if i did and some months i did and some i didnt! after many months of worring im now going to be taking clomid so it can help me along the way! dnt worry about it, if the docs put you on this you should be ok! but you should go just to make sure you ok! its early days but i think you will be fine!

The web site will tell you all about clomid! Good luck x

you can go and see your doctor but the likey hood is that they wont refer you to a fertility clinic or do any tests until you have been actively trying to onceive for a year to 18mths. However if you wish to be go private then they will of course carry out the tests for you now. good luck

while you're questioning of having a downs syndrome try then it relatively is taken under consideration necessary discover out once you have that, from reminiscence there is only 3 weeks that it relatively is achieved (i think of weeks 10 - 13), at this degree it relatively is achieved via an common blood try to an ultrasound. exterior of this time it needs to be a diverse technique and can be very risky so is significant to appreciate basically before time whilst it relatively is needed, while you're picking to have this achieved that it.
