You could try a Feliway comfort zone plug-in and Feliway spray to reduce the marking. http://www.petcomfortzone.com/czcats.htm

Make sure there aren't any strange cats coming around your house that might be causing him to feel territorial and spray - you may need to spray cat repellant or spread cat repellant granules outside around your house to deter strays.

How are you certain that he doesn't have a urinary infection or problem? Have you taken him to the vet and specifically asked that he be checked for urinary problems, or are you just assuming he's OK because the vet said he was healthy at a recent annual checkup? To rule out infection, the vet has to run a specific test on your cat's urine. Unless your vet has checked a urine sample recently, there could still be a problem.

If the spraying is an emotional issue, a vet can prescribe medication to help. Please talk to your vet about this problem.

It's because you got him fixed too late. Most vets recommend neutering and spaying cats before their first heat, or before any spraying or tendencies to roam have began. In this case, you waited a little too long. There are still some things you can try:

squirt bottle- spray him every time you catch him doing it and make a "sssss" "ssss" sound... if it works, then you may be able to take away the bottle, and just make the sound

newspaper- roll it up and hit something with it, or spank his bottom. This is good because it doesn't hurt the cat at all, but the sound really scares them.

toy- maybe get him a cat tree or let him go outside for a while. It may just be that he has pent up energy and aggression that a normal cat would take outside. Give him his own space or territory to tear up or spray whenever he wants

The attention thing may fade after awhile also. My cat was also extremely clingy for weeks after getting fixed. Hope this helps!

Wanting your attention all the time is normal cat behavior. No cure for that.

Sometimes when a cat is recently neutered it will continue to spray for awhile until the male hormones subside. If your cat was recently neutered, the problem still might still resolve itself.

A few neutered cats continue to spray. There is not much you can do in thse situations except clean the spot, so hopefully they won't remark it. I get a product called Urine-off from my vet (also available on-line) that is very effective and even gets rid of cat spray, which is about as bad as it gets. I've found the stuff you buy in pet stores, such as Nature's Miracle does not cut it.

Yes some cats can be very demanding wanting attention I would suggest getting another cat for a companion , that will give him someone to play with and I'm sure that will slow him down some what.

As for it still spraying I wonder if it was a botched job, I say bring it back to the vet that did the job and tell him the cat is still spaying

In that case, I think - and I am guessing - that your boy is either stressed or frustrated or both. Urine spraying and smearing poop are marking behaviors. They are also how cats express extreme emotions such as frustration. Your cat is trying to tell you something. Take a good look at what is going on in your home. Have there been any social changes, like a roommate moving in or out? Is there a new cat or dog in the neighborhood that he perceives as a rival or threat? Is he being mistreated in any way? Is he healthy? Are you neglecting him? Has your schedule and therefore his routine changed drastically? Are you "seeing another cat" outside your home and bringing back its scent on your clothing? All these things can cause a cat to spray urine (or smear poop) around the house

A few months ago, we moved to a new apartment. Both my cats did not like that place becuase since it was a "pet freindly" complex, there were dogs constantly being walked and stray cats always in sight. Both my cats were indoor-outdoor cats but in this apartment, I thought to turn them into indoor-only cats. They both became extremely frustrated and stressed becuase of the sight of other strange pets they can see from the windows. My youngest cat began to trail poop in the hallway. He did this 3 times. My older cat began to spray and claw at the carpet. Thankfully, we stayed in that palce only 3 months. We are now in a house. Both my cats stay indoors most of the time, but I have an outdoor enclosure for them where they can stay if I can't be with them outdoors. Also, I walk them around the backyard on a leash to satisfy their psychological need to roam and investigate all the interesting scents of the garden. Both have been perfect angel as far as the litter box goes.

You need to see what could possibly stressing or rustrating your cat. Distract him with some new toys or new cat furniture (perch, condo, cat tree, scratcher). If your cat likes catnip, get him a cool toy stuffed with it. There are also essneces or liquids that you can but from the petstore that are formulated to lessesn cat stress (they mimick cat "feel good" pheremones).

    Good luck.

Sometimes males will still spray, especially if they were neutered after they already matured and started spraying. He is taking ownership of you by spraying you! I would try to use weird smells where he sprays to teach him differently. There are behavioural vets that can also be called for help. Good luck!

It is a learnt behaviour, and not because he was neutered "too late" Some cats are sprayers - males and females, specially if upset.

If he is mainly spraying you and your stuff you are the one he is angry at. Try and work out what you have done LOL

Also soak the areas he has sprayed with vinegar, this will neutralise the smell.

I believe when neutered cats do this, it's all about territory. Are you not spending enough time with him? Have you recently gotten any new animals? Maybe pay a little more attention and try pampering and spoiling a little extra.

Ask your vet for anti-anxiety pills for your cat. They take a while to work, about a month, but it has worked wonders for my cat. The pills are very inexpensive, about $3 a month. To get rid of the smell, I found that straight rubbing alcohol worked best. It took longer, about 2 months, to get the urine smell out of the carpet.

Maybe he was neutered too late and already got into the habit. Or if he was just done recently, his hormones might take a few weeks to settle down.
