I guess acid reflex?

Right at the end of my ribs I have increasing pain right there. Is that acid reflex or some kind of GI problem. Its been burning me right at that spot for 3 days now.

How can I cure this or decrease the pain until I can get to a doctor. Ive been taking Prilosec OTC and it works to a point and then I have the pain back again. Please, any ideas to get rid of the pain?

You have a gallbladder problem, it actually hurts right after you eat, and if you have it for 3 days now you probably have what its called cholelitiasis in other words cholesterol stones in your gallbladder caused by the obstruction of the cystic duct that goes to the gallbladder and the pain is because of the inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis), probably you're almost 40 years old, have nausea? vomiting? and the only remedy for that is surgery its a simple surgery so go see your doctor he can help you better than anyone here.

Well, three days is a long time to have heartburn, but if Prilosec works, that is probably what it is, although it also sounds a little like it could be gallbladder, as well.

If it's your gallbladder, it will be much worse after you eat something with fat in it. The pain might even wake you up at night; it's unlikely that gallbladder pain would decrease when you take Prilosec or Zantac.

Back to the acid reflus: try taking Zantac also. It's safe to take both of those meds together. You can also take Tums, but wait a little bit after you take the other medications. You also need to avoid coffee, smoking, greasy foods, and spicy foods until this problem goes away. If this doesn't do the trick, you need to see a health professional on Monday.

If you are a younger person and if this ever happens again, I would definitely see a health professional.

If you are an older person, and in particular, an older woman, I would see a medical professional even if it doesn't happen again.

Women can have unusual symptoms which are cardiac (heart-related) in origin, even though they might not seem like they are coming from your heart.

It does take the prilosec time to fully work. Although you are not suppose to I have taken 2 in a day if my symptoms are bad. You can also do a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar to see if that alleviates it. I'll forewarn you, it's nasty, that why you need to do it like you are doing a shot at a bar. Also, you will feel like you are going to throw up for about 5 minutes --- it is not a pleasant feeling. I did it when I was at my wits end and now I swear by it. Stay away from soda, caffeine and spicy foods. Also, ginger can help alleviate it, but some Ginger extract at the health food store and follow the directions on the back... Feel Better

I'm not positive, but I think with acid refux the acidity stuff in your stomach travels back up your throat... my daughter was like that for awhile. She was taking prescription meds for that, but then we learned that those medicines are actually bad for you. Now when she feels like it's acting up she drinks baking soda water or apple cider vinegar. I realize it may sound crazy to use the apple cider vinegar, but you'd be amazed! (It also works great to help stop vomiting.)

Now, if it's not acid reflux you may have another problem, that of which I don't know. What I can tell you is that whenever I am having pain I try to fix it myself before going to a doctor, mainly because I don't use prescription drugs. (Do a little reading on the subject, you may end up doing the same thing.) I am very much into finding natural cures to heal myself, and not only do I rarely get sick, but I also rarely step foot into a doctors office for myself.

You might want to try drinking water... and or water mixed with cranberry juice. Cranberry juice has a good effect in the digestive area for me.

Best of Luck.. I hope you feel better soon!!

As most other people, I would say probably gallbladder. I went to the hospital and they did tests and told me it wasn't my gallbladder, just acid reflux. So I took medicine for a couple weeks and it just didn't get better at all. My aunt, who's a nurse, suggested I tell the doctors I wanted a HIDA scan. This test is rather expensive so they don't just send people to do it all the time. It's specifically for gallbladder testing. I did the HIDA scan and found out my gallbladder completely didn't work. So go to the doctor, and if your pain doesn't go away, ask for the HIDA scan.

And try eating things like cereal, pasta without sauce, anything not spicy, greasy, or fatty.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Do you realize you need to keep taking the dose of the Prilosec OTC every day or two? If you stop or if you start to skip doses the problem will come back again.

I used it for several years and had no problems except when I would forget to take it for a few days. Then it was like starting over till I built up the proper level in my body.

If you have problems till you get your level OK then take plain old cheap TUMS for your tummy. "Acid reflux" is the amrketing team's name for heartburn. So whatever you used to take for that will still work and will of course be cheaper since you are not paying for the marketing team with it.

btw there is now a cheaper generic that is identical to Prilosec OTC.

I don't know if you've ever went through childbirth, but my symptoms are identical to yours and that's how bad this hurts. I haven't had any tests yet, but I told my Dr's assistant, and she told me to keep a journal about what I'm doing before the pain starts. I have to lie on my side, and I've tried meds such as Prilosec (didn't help) and Gas X (helps somewhat). Hope we both can find out what's causing this and get it fixed soon.

I too am guessing that it's your gall bladder. You really should go to an urgent care or emergency room. They can do testing to find out what it is that really is wrong and give you medication to help it. If it's been going on for 3 days and is increasing, it's time to be evaluated.

Try Gas X and see if that alleviates it at all. It sounds more like gas than acid reflux because the priolosec (if taken correctly) should be cutting the pain longer term.

Anything would be better than nothing untill you can see a doctor. Try going on a bland diet cutting out spicy foods, caffine, sodas, chocolate, etc...
