Are 15 people reason enough to go to war?

Are the 15 captive navy personnel reason enough for the UK to declare war on Iran? What if instead they were 15 children? What about 15 child molestors, would your answer change?

Also, would you agree to a war against Iran when you objected to war with Iraq? Why?

is it 15 people; or a principal? WE were willing to risk war when CArter sent troops to get our hostages back from Iran.

Its taken less than 15 to start a war in the past. I would say that Iran is certainly goading the UK for a war, but at least they are still talking.

I was firmly against the Iraq war, and I was against the actions that were being proposed against Iran for their nuclear programme. But the whole situation with them abducting 15 military personell (or anyone for that matter) and using them in propaganda has made me doubt that I will object to any war with Iran.

I have tried to get information from both sides, but its very hard to get an unbiased view, as Iran has put up a bold front and keep going back on promises and changing the story.

I always thought that after the Iran/Iraq war Iran was a peacefull country, evidently not.

Would it be enough if that was a member of your family over there? My brother is in the army and at the end of the day he knew what he was getting into when he joined up as did the 15 who have been captured, but personally no I do not think it is enough to declare war. On the other hand if they do execute these service men and woman then should they be allowed to get away with it?

I feel for the families but I would feel even more so for the soldiers and families if they were sent out to fight another war - where is it all going to end??

Although I honestly do not spend too much time thinking about the complicated intertwined political meanderings of the world, let me pose a question to you.

If war with Iraq is not sitting well with the US public and most want out and US loyalty to Britain being what it is, what would it take to happen in the Middle East to compel the US to stand and fight? Would we stay for an ally? If our allies became embroiled in their own struggle, would we run to their defenses as historically we have?

We never fully know the intricate reasons things happen, especially in World Politics, and unless you know where true loyalties lie, it is a hard question to answer. 5.5 years after 9/11 and most people in the US have truly forgotten that fear, that feeling of helplessness. We want to go to Starbucks and watch tv and feel safe/protected in our huge homes. We get so mad when things don't work the way we want them too.

Complacency in our world will destroy us faster than a terrorist, and yet, we oppose any action against those who want nothing more than to destroy us.

Britain has been right beside us the whole time we have fought terrorism, and now they are outraged that 15 of their sailors have been made pawns. They have suffered in other ways since they chose to stand beside us. Here in Texas, only 1 hour from where I live, is the base that has endured the highest percentage of American GI deaths in Iraq. Would we feel outraged if 15 children were involved? Definetely.

The child molesters?? In the US, you cannot even compare 15 sailors/children to 15 child molesters.

War is war. Whether it is with Iran or Iraq, it is war, and if we are fighting terrorism on their soil, so be it. I honestly prefer it that way so I can watch tv in my home with my cup of coffee.

Russian Military Experts: Iran Attack Scheduled To Take Place April 6th

The following two articles regarding war on Iran and the further "restructuring" of the mid-east from RIA Novosti, translated using Babelfish but you get the gyst of it. I'm unsure whether the times and date given are GMT or Russian. It should be interesting to see how things play out in the coming days and weeks, not only to see if this info from Russia is accurate but especially since Iran has a mutual defence pact with Russia and Syria and is doubtful(as in when hell freezes over) that Amerisrael will honor any agreements or promises made with Russia(though make no mistake 'the oligarchs' are another matter entirely).

It depends on who is correct about the trespassing. I wouldn't [although British born] automatically assume that Iran is in the wrong. However, in this day and age, with global positioning, I can't see why Britain and Iran cannot appeal to an independent judgement. Say, one country chosen by Britain and one by Iran. In any event I just think that Iran is flexing its muscles and the navy personnel will be returned to Britain in good condition. War is not out of the question though and I wouldn't like to have Blair's problem on my shoulders.

The illegal capture of 1 military member is enough reason to go to war. What Iran is doing is unacceptable, and the West needs to put them back in their place. Their conservative, fundementalist government has grown FAR too bold after Iraq's government was toppled. In hindsight, it may be viewed as a mistake to have done this to Iraq, seeing how reckless Iran is now acting just years after Iraq has been neutralized. But of course, hindsight is 20/20.

I do not think that the US should heavily deal with Iran until they are out of Iraq. By that, I mean no large scale ground invasion. I do however believe that tactical cruise missile bombardments and other strategic bombings would be a perfect plan. Those types of strategies work well against more modernized countries. Iraq's government was toppled in a matter of days. The trouble is, you can't solve insurgencies that way, you need ground forces. Iran is much more stable than Iraq, however, and toppling their lunatic president and clerics would probably be accepted by many people there.

First off, it's not the number of people involved, it's the mindset that Iran has. They've taken over 1000 people hostage since 1979 (heard that number on the radio last night). If they don't get slapped down for it, they'll continue to do it.

Second, remember that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife was the impetus for World War I. The murder of two people ended up causing millions of deaths. It doesn't take much when the conditions are right for war.

    How many then???

    100

    1000

    10000

    1000000

One is too many, they have no right to hold them and they should be released immediately.

You cannot declare war on a country because of what a few have done, you can declare war when it is done on the orders of or under the protection of, as long as it can be proven, of a national government. War can only be declared by national government.

I'm all for a war in Iran as long as it is not the United States leading the charge. I'm sick of this country always being at the forefront of the military world. As for your question, I think if it was 15 children that might be enough to draw a unified world military response but not in this case. Unless these soldiers, including the woman, are be-headed on live television I see no need for another war.

15 lives are worth no more than one life. But to me, neither is 10,000. Which is why there shouldn't be war. But I have a completely warped mind, I have a theory as to why the greatest sin is dying of old age. So don't listen to me.
