Do you think yahoo answers helps or hurts in the polarization of politics?

In my experiance it has helped me to become less polarized and more willing to give the Liberal's views some thought. I still don't agree on most issues but it has helped me become more open and willing to listen to both side of the issues. My opinion on things like immigration have been changed heavilly and while I believe that illegal immigration is very wrong and needs to be corrected I now also am for a guest worker program where the people coming in are tracked and documented. YA has made me a more thoughtfull person. I still don't agree with the liberals but I may be a little more moderate now.

I think it depends on the ask-er. Your question is thoughtful and requires a particular amount of thought and judgment to answer.

While I can read that you tend to be conservative, you also show progress by willing to hear and consider others' points of view. I think you are like most Americans who are intelligent enough to read between the lines and come up with your own conclusions about things.

I agree with you. This is where the sides part. The right of center cons will listen and try to understand what the others are saying but the left of center dems find it very difficult to listen to anything but what they feel is right. You will notice by how many thumbs down I get. Because the Dems won't admit that is the way they are. Read Culture Warrior by Bill O'Reilly it will shed some light on your question. I believe it is at the end of the second chapter that defines the Secular Progressives like your question.

I am very conservative, but I come from an area where I am decidedly in the minority. I have always listened to liberals and (very) occasionally one will change my mind about an issue.

What Y!A has done for me was to show me that unfortunately, the sane liberals are no longer the ones in charge of the Dem party. Nowadays, the truly loony Left controls internal Dem politics. A modern-day Harry S Truman or JFK would be relegated to perpetual coffee fetching duty in their party today.

I agree it helps. When I ask a question I often get 2 or 3 good points from the other side.

yeah.. at first it polarized me a little more.. but then.. when you actually get to talking to people.. you find that for the most part we aren't that far apart in what we want .. and that we can work together on many things.. I think I have just as many liberal contacts as I do conservative.. and even a few libertarians lol.. and I respect all of their opinions.

It helps conservatives like me get the truth out to a lot of young people who have been deliberately mis-informed about many, many things.

If I can save even one youngster from crossing over to the dark-democrat-side, it is a victory. Because a single Jedi-conservative is worth hundreds of mindless liberals.
