Are there chemical alternatives to spaying your cat? Is there a cat "pill"?
I am currently serving abroad in an undeveloped country. We rescued a kitten from the street last year, and she's gone into heat numerous times. (Of course, it's driving us batty.) Although there are a few veterinarians here who neuter male cats, there are none willing to do a hysterectomy (spay), so that's not an option until we relocate to North America, Europe, or other industrialized region.
One of the European diplomats here said that she believed that professional breeders controlled the cycles of their queens chemically (i.e., using hormone treatment). I have done several web searches, but have been unable to fine any definitive information. Is her information true? If so, is such medicine limited to European distribution?

I just referenced one of my old text books and it DID say that there is a contraceptive injection or pill for females. It says that breeders have used it, but it's not very common because of side effects due to lengthy use and possible weight gain.

unfortunately there isn't a pill in mass production that is readily avalible for this task. The only thing that will help is a spay. Breeders cannot control the cycle of their animals- however animals are a lot like people when you get a lot of females around each other their cycles will tend to all happen at the same time.

They wont Spay her? Thats weird. I have no clue. I know you can give them birth control pills made for them but other than that no clue. Im getn my moms cat fixed since she wont shut up and goes in heat for a week everyother week. I just moved in with her temp. and i cant stand the thing at all.
All I can suggest is limit her to a single room far end of the house and ear plugs. Putting 2 doors between me and that cat helps alot. Having background nooise helps also. Like a radio or a night time sleep nature radio

I agree with SeansMom - the behavior will probably not change. This is because the cat doesn't ovulate until it actually mates. If the pill works like a human pill and keeps the cat from ovulating, then the cat will still presumably be in heat (just not ovulating after mating). Just a guess, though. I'm not a cat doctor, I just play one on TV.

I know there is a chemical "castration" for dogs but don't know about the cat part, or whether there is a pill for female cats.
FYI...the dog doesn't lose the urge, just the ability to reproduce. And its NOT 100% effective. Accidents do happen. The link below (from the state of Texas) says that currently only chemical sterilization is available for male dogs....I'd sure be interested to hear anything you do hear about it for female animals.

I'm really not sure that you want spay this cat. In undeveloped countries, there is tendency to have an overpopulation of disease carrying rodents, those cats help control rodents.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry for you. I don't think if you get a pill that it will control her behaviour, just that she might not get pregnant. In any case, I hope that if you find out you'll share the information about the pill if you get it. From all the questions on this site, I think that the pill company can get rich in the U.S.!!! LOL
