These humongous presidential campaign fundraisings are inappropriate to say the least. What do you think?

We can feed a third world country for a few days with $60 million dollars that Clinton and Obama have collected so that each of them could travel around the country and speak into a microphone. 12% of Americans live in poverty, Medicaid and Medicare benefits are constantly reduced, government assistance programs are constantly cut back , and yet these ridiculous campaigns that many despise anyway are taking place right in front of our eyes.

A $10 Million cap on all campaign funds.

However, heh, heh, do you think it will ever get passed?

    Who votes for laws? Politicians.

Who would be negatively affected? Politicians.

It would be like Congress NOT voting themselves a pay raise. Not gonna happen.

I've always wondered exactly what those humongous election campaign fundraisings were financing. How big an entourage do you need to take with you when you travel around the country to speak into a microphone? And how much does your campaign staff really need to get paid? Shouldn't most of them be parttime volunteers? This may actually be a good platform question for an opponent of Hillary/Obama.

Would you be very please if Clinton only raised 4 million dollars?

No, you would make a big deal out of it and laughed at the paltry sum raised. She would be the laughing stock.

It's okay for Howard Dean to raise 40 million back in 2003 but not okay for her. How absolutely sexist!

I am more impressed that she's such a good fund raiser.

A Presidential candidate who cannot even raise a decent figure for his or her campaign is sorely in need of classes to improve their social, campaigning, budgeting and organizing skills. I don't want a lousy campaigner to be the President of the United States. I want that person to be tops!

I want a President who can raise funds quickly and make her promises to the Nation come true.

She's obviously not all talk and no substance.

If you are talking about feeding the world with that money, ask about the money that went missing in Iraq.

Some of the amounts are ridiculous, but it's the game they have to play. Except for the very rare politician who either already has name recognition or can generate a groundswell of demand, money is needed for advertising and events and travel, for a number of people, and if your opponent has ten times your funding, and wants to run a dirty campaign (or even a clean one) you can be in for a very difficult slog.

So, it's not pretty, but it's the way it is.

Spending billions to be in Iraq for no obvious purpose - now that's disgusting.

We could feed a third world country for a year with the 500 billion dollars we have spent in Iraq.

The amaount of money used in a campaign is out of control I do not know how to go about righting it though. But, In my opinion, Government handouts are even more out of control. The Democratic party uses these montly checks along with the promise of more to enslave people. If you hand someone a check every month , instead of making them work for it you are ruining their lives. The rest of us who know how hard it is to get up each morning and go to work day after day, year after year, whithout missing a single day for years, just to take care of our families and to save for our future, cannot afford to give any more of our wages to those of you who will not work. There are jobs everywhere. They never pay much to begin with. It takes years to work your way up to a good wage. But sitting on your butt waiting on a check is not the answer.

It's only inappropriate when your candidate is outshined during the fundraising period but I do agree with your assessment of what we can and should do with all that money. I mean, if the money represents for each dollar raised is the number of voters going to the polls in support of that candidate then I can understand but it's not. Hillary had millions in her purse then threw it in the 1 QTR number so split her voters in half.

I don't like it I don't have that kind of money but yes it does cost unbelievable amounts of cash to run a major national election for what 18 months. Ads, staff, travel, research, polling, etc.

campaigning doesn't cost $10 you know. its a lot of money.

the difference is the government money comes from out pockets, their money comes from businesses and rich folk. completely different

We could feed the world on the trillion dollars were spending on this war... did you ever think about that?
