Destination Weddings?

I am considering a destination wedding, instead of a traditional. I am open for suggestions on where to go, how to go about planning, and the total price. If you have had, or are planning one...what was your experience like, and what have you found to be helpful in your planning?

Thanks so much!

Update:

Yeah...we plan to take 4 or 6 people with us (depending on the cost). We will also be having a reception for everyone, upon our return.

Check out Sandels resorts they do all the planning and their web site can give you all the prices down to the penny even if you are just looking. They have quite a few different places. Also if you search for stuff about Key West they have many places that do destination weddings. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Florida beaches are a great destination! However, be sure to check the weather http://www.weather.com/ before you set a date. Usually, between December - May is the best time as the weather is usually pleasant here. Keep in mind (not many ppl are aware of this) that hurricane season runs from June 1 - November 30th & that's our rainy season as well.

All I know is my best friends daughter is having a destination wedding in Mexico the first part of May and I would love to have gone, but frankly, I simply can't afford it. Between the airfare and lodging, it's just out of the questions for me.

I am currently planning one in Florida, along the beach near Melbourne. I had no problem booking airfare, hotels and a church but I havent gotten into the finer details yet so we'll see.

I've heard the Dominican Republic is cheap as well.

this is exactly what i am doing. i decided on St. thomas cause its pretty and the island is not as expensive as somewhere like st kitts or grand cayman. look on www.tripadvisor.com for reviews of resorts.the planning it looked like would be easy to do via email. i found my wedding location first then figured out where we should stay. have not come up with a budget yet as we have not told our parents yet. yikes!

not sure what your budget is but I heard about 'wedding packages' for places like the Dominican Republic...

... that could be an option, you don't plan on having a big wedding....

i would just go to a beach, maybe florida, then when you get back have a huge reception, with lots of gifts!
