Virginia Tech Shooting...What's everyone thinking?

I just got done reading the 2 plays the shooter wrote and learned a little more about his identity. I was in high school for Columbine and now I just wonder...what's it going to take to stop this from happening again?

I don't know the answer to this puzzle but I do think that there is a sickness that pervades society. There seem to be a lot of lonely, emotionally fragile people nowadays. In school, from kindergarten to college level, there is a sort of nastiness among a lot of students. It almost seems as if they learn to be mean at an earlier age than before. Is it a result of seeing horror movies or television shows with mean young people, who knows? The only thing that is obvious is that a lot of children are spending too much time in front of computers and video games. As a result, they often seem out of touch with reality. Many of them do not seem to know how to interact with their peers in a healthy manner. There was a time when children were encouraged to play more, negotiate differences and look out for one another. I don't see that as much lately. I would say technology has been a blessing in some respects, but it may also be a curse, in that it opens up the world to people so that they get to see and hear what others are doing. However it also insulates some people who are already borderline.

I think schools and campuses can only do the best they can in terms of providing good security on the school/campus grounds and also provide ample counselling. Other than that, there's not much else that can be done because the US is such a huge country, and there are a lot of frustrated adolescents and young adults who are caked by personal and social problems, and such horrific incidents like the VT shooting, can occur anywhere in the world. There are no guarantees in life despite all the preparation and measures taken to prevent such a horrific incident from happening.

From what I've heard, the shooter obtained the guns very quickly from a local gun shop. I think it is too easy. There should be a psychological test and gun ownership responsibility test, and some letters of recommendation that shows this person is a responsible law abiding citizen. And there should be a series of tests that the potential gun owner should pass before getting the gun/s. Better enforcement and busts on illegal gun shops should reduce this type of crime. There is nothing wrong if the gun owner is a responsible, law abiding citizen that respects the life and liberty of other people.

I'm thinking there's a lot of parents about to file a lot of wrongful death suits against the university. This kid was a walking time bomb, and that fact had not gone unnoticed. Nobody wanted to take the responsibility for getting him under a doctors care, and what happened was inevitable.

He was either a psychopath, or a mind-controlled manchurian candidate of the U.S. government. An autopsy,if they do a proper investigation might tell a lot.Anyway one thing is for sure, you're not going to get the truth about this.

I don't know. I think the issue has to focus on how to identify troubled kids (and adults) and somehow intervene, engage them. Easier said than done - I don't know if there truly is a practical answer.
