Get some simple solution stain & odor remover from the pet store - look for the kind specifically for cat urine odors. It's an enzyme solution that breaks down the urine, rather than just masking the odor (any odor masking will only have a temporary effect). Follow the directions - you'll need to COMPLETELY saturate the affected area of the mattress with the solution - you may want to use a turkey baster to 'inject' the solution down into the mattress. It will take a few days to dry, and may smell more strongly while it's drying, but it should get rid of the odor. If the urine stayed in the mattress for a while, you may need to apply more than one treatment. After the treatments have dried thoroughly, you can apply a product such as Zero Odor or Equalizer stain & odor remover (carried by most vets & some pet stores). It would probably be a good idea for her to put a waterproof mattress cover on her mattress afterward, to prevent damage in case there's another accident.
She should probably take her cat to the vet to make sure the cat doesn't have a urinary health issue that could be causing her to go out of the box. If the cat is healthy, the vet can advise her on behavioral issues as well. This link explains common housesoiling problems & solutions: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/Housesoil...

I used a product called urine gone that uses enzymes to get rid of the urine and the smell. It actually worked for the most part, but since I have a pillow top some of it is still in there. But you can buy that stuff at Walgreens, or someplace like that.

Mix together some vinegar and water in a spray bottle (1 c. vinegar, the rest water - it takes the cat urine smell out of things right away. Granted they will smell like vinegar for a few days, but it is the ONLY thing that will take the smell out and not just mask the odor. And it is really inexpensive too.

A lot depends on how deep the urine went in and how thick the mattress is. What I would do is deep clean the mattress first. Then sprinkle it well with Bicarbonate of Soda. In the USA, I think you call it Baking soda. Baking soda absorbs odor from absolutely anything (marvelous for lifting burnt food out of pots too).
Actually, before having the mattress steam cleaned or anything, I would try the baking soda, just in case. It may just work and its so cheap.

It will never come out...All you can do is poorly mask the smell with something like febreeze but it will always be there. She'll have to get a new bed or put a waterproof plastic cover to hopefully seal in the majority of the smell.

It kills the smell with enzymes and the only thing that works. You can use it on carpet, spray it on cat boxes, and even wash laundry with it. Give it a try, wash her bed clothes with it again just to get rid of any lingering smell and you'll have to soak the matress with it and let it sit and dry up on its own. Good Luck!!

I found this product a while ago... it called zero odor. It's worked great when were trying to train our kittens to go in the litter box. Occassionally I spray on the carpets as we also have a sheep dog. The website is zeroodorstore.com
It really is a great product!!! Good Luck!!!

It is going to be very hard to get it out. You can get a plastic cover for the mattress and that will help. I got two of them an put it on. When you have two of them you can't spell the pee from the cat. My cat use to pee on my bed and I got the plastic covers and I put two of them on and it helped a lot. It will also keep the cat from peeing on the mattress because they don't like the sound of the plastic on their feet. I have it on my bed now and she hates the sound of the plastic noise.

A great remedy to try would get yourself a lemon and cut it in half! Pour some water in it and nuke it in the microwave for about 2 or 3 minutes. Sqeeze the excess liquid out and clean the matress off with it! it works great.
