Why is reincarnation considered a pagan idea?

Update:

And just because it's pagan, does that mean it's not real?

Surprisingly enough, reincarnation is not a pagan idea. Belief in reincarnation was held by many early Christians, even Jesus. Around 500 AD, the Roman church decided reincarnation was bad.

Jesus affirmed to his disciples that John the Baptist was indeed the reincarnation of the prophet Elijah.

The Christian Gnostic's were destroyed partly because of their belief in reincarnation.

I have a lot of "pagan" friends, and deal with this constantly. There are those that believe there is a power of creation. Most do. But most are going through the Buddhist or Hindu. Both of those are really good as far as morals and reflection . ...

I know many " pagans " that are much more conscientious than Christians ( well, so called ).

I believe that the pure in heart WILL see the Light before it is over with. And knowing their hearts, all will be well in the end.

It is up to us, as LOVING Christians to reveal. They don't have , at the moment, a good reflection of so called Christians.....but they have respect for me and my beliefs. Sometimes it takes a shovel at a time to remove a mountain...

Deceit is a MAJOR tool of satan....

    PEACE.....

Monotheists actually believed in reincarnation too, there's evidence for it in the Bible, however the Catholic Church worked diligently to squash it, and so do some modern other monotheist beliefs. What is considered "pagan" predates monotheism, and many of those belief structures believed in it too.

it's actually common in many religious traditions; monotheism is kind of an anomoly in that regard.

since many non-monotheist religions are labelled as pagan, there's your answer.
