Is anyone else sick of young women asking if they're fat?

It's usually some kid or a younger teenager---does that bother anyone?

Update:

My main concern is that it's the beginning of very unhealthy ways of seeing themselves. I just turned 25 this week, and I've never heard half of these issues come up until recently. It's a frightening and depressing cultural shift. Our women should strengthen their minds and develop their bodies to be strong and healthy.

Update 2:

Lynsey, it worries me. I don't mean to sound rude, but it's frustrating.

And yes, 12 years old most assuredly is a kid. Anyone under the age of 18 is a minor.

Update 3:

OK Lyn, that's enough. You've been flagged.

Being a teenager myself, yes, it does. But I can understand where they're coming from.

It wasn't until this year that I realized that it is okay to have curves and be muscular. There are plenty of girls I know who have great bodies and hide them, and there are plenty of girls with not-so-great bodies that aren't afraid of showing skin.

I think society is too fixated on the idea that the only good body is a stick-skinny one. Young girls are looking to the wrong people to use as role models.

The diet craze isn't helping either. Adults are concerned about weight, so young girls think they should be too.

I wish everyone would realize that each body is beautiful in its own way, and learn to appreciate what they have.

Yes I am! BUT in their defense has anyone seen the clothing put out for girls sizes 4 to 16?? The only difference between a 4 and an 8 is the length of the shirt! It's awful the clothing companies make clothes sooo small these days....it gives all the girls a reason to think they are fat! So I blame the clothing industry!

YES>YES>YES>,I SAW WAY TOO MUCH OF THIS AT THE FACILITY I WORKED AT(DCF) VERY MUCH SO, THERE SEEMS TO BE MORE THAN A GROWING TREND, PRE-TEENS HAVE ALSO JOINED IN ON THE SELF STARVATION THINKING OF "I AM TOO FAT", LET ALONE THAT THEIR MINDS HAVE YET TO FULLY DEVELOPE, THEY ARE ALREADY PREOCCUPIED WITH THE LATEST FASHIONS AND WHAT IS HOT, I FAULT SOME OF THE PARENTS FOR THIS, IF YOU DO NOT RUN OUT TO THE STORE AND BY BABIES FROM THE TIME THEY ARE BORN : TRENDY AND CHIC CLOTHING, THEN DO THEY REALLY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, AND IF THEY DO, ARE YOU TEACHING THEM THAT CLOTHES DON'T REALLY MATTER, IT IS THE PERSON INSIDE OF THEM, NO WAY IN HECK WOULD I SPEND EVEN 75 ON A PAIR OF SNEAKERS, OR OVER PRICED T-SHIRTS FOR EITHER OF MY CHILDREN. CHILDREN REFLECT WHAT IS LEARNED AT HOME, OR THEIR IMMEDIATE SURROUNDINGS, IT IS OUR JOBS TO TRY AND STEER THEM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTIONS, AND YES I KNOW THAT THAT IS NOT ALWAYS GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT AS ADULTS WE MUST START TAKING SOME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE LOST CHILDREN. THE DAYS OF AUNTIES AND NEIGHBORS, SOMETIMES JUST A CONCERNED PERSON NEED TO COME BACK. NEWS GAL IF YOU WOULD, E-MAIL ME

Sort of; I'm not annoyed with them, but it bothers me in that I am worried about them. I feel the same way; people tell me I'm "skinny" all the time, but I still hate my body. I think they're just looking for some reassurance that they are beautiful the way they are!

Yes it irritates me because usually the ones that ask aren't fat to begin with which tells me that society focuses to much on appearences especially for young women and girls.

    it totally bugs me!

my friends are from the age of 12-14 and they are WAY skinnier than me. they seem to have the perfect body. yet they spent most of their time looking in a mirror saying how fat they are and that they have to loose 20 lbs! every time they say that i feel like choking them!(j.k) because they aren't fat! they have nice bodies. and they want to look practicly like Lindsay Lohan!

and me like other people who should be worring about their weight and healthand loose weight, we don't.

    so it totally bothers!
