What interesting things are there to see in Indonesia in July?

Going to Jakarta for a week and would like to know what things there are in and around Jakarta to see. Hostorical, cultural, and architectural things would be of most interest. Have only traveled in Korea and 3 days in Japan so want to see as much as possible in a short time. I also will be on my own if that makes any difference.

For a taste of Indonesia multicultural life you must visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) - Indonesia Miniature Park.

For old architectural buildings, key in the key words "Old Batavia" in your search engine. Batavia was Jakarta's name before the 1945 independence.

If you're staying in August then perhaps you'll be able to see our independence celebration on Aug. 17th. July has no significance in history of Indonesia I guess. Weather wise, you will be experiencing a warm summer/dry season.

Enjoy your visit to Jakarta. :-p

It will be no difference in which month you visit Jakarta. I live in Jakarta.. It's more like a business place than a place to travel. Taman Mini sounds popular but if you're not so interested about culture or nature, no need to go there. The place is quite old and not well organized I guess. You may go to Fantasy World (Dunia Fantasi) but it's also nothing if you compare it with Disneyland. I know a place which really different then other capital city in the world. Go to Mangga Dua Mall. You'll be surprised to see very very cheap electronic things especially DVD, VCD, computer software, play station CD and things like that. Hmm.. yeah.. that's not original but that's very very good deal. You can buy it for less than a dollar each ;)

Bali is a very nice place to go. Doesnt neccessarily in July, but also all year long. However, visiting Indonesia without visiting Jakarta will be like having a hotdog without the sausage in it. Afterall, it's the capital city of Indonesia!

For more informations on travel tips, architectural buildings, places of interest, amusement parks, and so on, try to visit www.jakartaexpat.com

You can even book the hotels online.

One important thing to bring with you is the mosquito repellent cream.

Have a great trip and enjoy your stay in Indonesia!

Nothing's special in Jakarta in July. Just business as usual.

While you're in Jakarta the following sites are must see:

    - Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). It's a theme park presenting a miniature of Indonesia.

    - Taman Impian Jaya Ancol. It's a theme park located in northern Jakarta, presenting ocean adventures (Sea World, Ocean Arena, Jetski, etc.) and some action games (roller coaster, merry-go-round, etc.)

    - Mangga Dua. It's shopping heaven for cheap and good stuff, i.e., electronic and fashion.

    Bon Voyage

I dont believe there is a lot of culutrual type museums etc..

Jakarta itself is cultural and you will see plenty just driving around and interacting with the people. Architecture is ok, I enjoyed driving through some of the ritzy areas of jakarta and then through many of the slums to see the difference and gap in wealth here. It was eye opening.

If you're looking for historical, cultural, and architectural things then Yogyakarta deserves to be your consideration. It's only 45 minutes away from Jakarta by plane.

Taman Mini is tons of fun and educational.

You have to go to the Suharto museum (Museum Purna Bhakti Pertiwi). It's filled with extravagant gifts the former president recieved from other heads of state. A jade Chinese wedding bed, lots of gold...

If you can, go to the old Dutch section of Jakarta (Batavia).

Since you are interested in the historical/cultural aspects, you may want to catch a wayang puppet show or gamelan performance. If your hotel doesn't have one planned, they can tell you where one is.

You can visit : - Tioman Island, Pahang (one of the most beautiful beach in the world with white sand) - Langkawi Island, Kedah (it's a historical place about Mahsuri, a lady who was killed and white blood dripped of her body says in legend, Mat Chinchang Mountain with height of 810metres above sea level) - Niah Cave, Sarawak (the biggest cave in the world) ---> better get Anti-Malarial vaccine before going - Kinabalu Mountain, Sabah (the highest in South East Asia) - Tawau, Sabah (a place where they grow seaweed to be exported around the world especially Japan, and of course lots of fresh seafood, you can even have Pufferfish to be eaten here! ) - Beruas, Perak (it used to be called as Gangga which was a strong Buddhist empire a long time ago) - Pangkor Island, Perak (you can get the best anchovies in South East Asia there!) - Historical City of Malacca (there's Dutch Fort, Churches, Clock Tower, old ship replica and many more) You should consider : - knowing a little Malay language so that you won't be fooled during business as in buying food or anything. - remember to always carry your passport - mosquito repellent is a must when you're going to jungles. i think that's all for now , if you need more help , just ask :)
