ATX power supply for microATX motherboard?
hi! i installed a 600 watt ATX power supply in a microATX motherboard and to my surprise it fried the board! is there something wrong?? what do i need to prevent it to fry my new motherboard?? thanks in advance people!
this is what i did... the power supply came with a 20+4 pin in which the 4 pin is detachable to accomodate for a 20 pin motherboard. i noticed that the old motherboard has a 24 pin and another 4 pin which is in separate location. the old power supply (not the 600) is set up in a way that 20 pin is conected to the 24 and the separate 4 pin to the 4pin. so i configured the new PS to the board in way like the old PS. and poof all the fans are running but on my monitor it wont go to BIOS which the tec told me that i fried the motherboard... i hope this helps lol

The powersupply didn't fry the board. It is either a faulty mobo, or something shorted it. Are there any clips that are not flat or anything laying on the board when it is on? THe mobo will only pull what power it needs, your ATX PS is fine in there don't worry.

Is the motherbored a 20 pin or a 20 +4 or 24pin plug? If it's a 20 +4 and you just plugged in the 20 pin connector it won't work...just a thought, did you/do you have the manual for the MB and the PS?

Why such a large ps? All you basically need for winxp is, depending on mobo, 300-450 watt
