CKC Registered Dogs?

In another post I made someone laughed at my dog's breeder being CKC registered, I don't get it? In Canada, the Canadian Kennel Club is equivalent to America's AKC, is it not? Do they not have equal standings? :S

    In Canada it is a legitimate registry. The person who laughed was under the impression you purchased a dog registered with the Continental Kennel Club which is a scam registry. The Canadian Kennel Club is legit.

    There are 2 CKC registries. One being the Canadian Kennel Club which is a valid registry. The other is Continental kennel Club which is bogus and will register a mutt and is often used by back yard breeders and puppy mills and people who have been banned from AKC and Canadian Kennel Clubs. SO there was probably just some confusion over which CKC you were referring to.

    Yes, the Canadian Kennel Club ( http://www.ckc.ca/en/ ) is on equal footing with the AKC ( http://www.akc.org/ ). They are both legit registries, and both recognize each other as being so.

    In the US, the CKC usually means "Continental Kennel Club", ( http://www.continentalkennelclub.com/ )which is a scam registry that will register anything. There are no pedigrees or papers required, all you do is send in a few pictures and have 2 people say "yes, it's purebred". So basically, you can have a mutt, but if you find 2 people to sign their names claiming it to be purebred, it can be registered.

    AKC = good

    Canadian Kennel Club = good

    Continental Kennel Club = bad

    If it is the Canadian Kennel Club then they are a very legit registry and yes they are like the American Kennel Club.

    Unfortunately here in the US we have some scam registries that use the same abbreviation as the Canadian KC..so people tend to get confused.

    The scam registries are the Continental Kennel Club and The Canine Kennel Club..both of which are worthless organizations.Dogs registered with these organizations aren't really registered and it is questionable if most of them are really purebred or not.The "papers' are worthless, not worth the paper they are written on.

    Source(s): many years of registration experience

    They probably thought it was the other kennel club called the Continental Kennel club you were taking about. This other club is a joke and meaningless.

    I think there was a confusion.

    You are correct the Canadian Kennel club is also recognized by AKC and is looked upon as it equal.

    In USA it is called the canine kennel club. In fact, in the states anyone can create their own club and call any dog a member. Some of them, many of them, are a joke, and not worth the paper they are written on. Somebody probably thought you were talking about one of those groups.

    Dogs are dogs are dogs. They have no prejudice or racism within their own kind. Only humans are concerned with pedigrees or registrations. That 's because humans are arrogant and see dogs as fashion accessories. A championship female showdog has no problem breeding with a heinz 57 cur from down the street. They just don't have any arrogance. It's a pity that humans can't think more like dogs. We would be a kinder species that way.

    My dog is CKC - but it stands for Continental Kennel Club - and is not so prestigious as the AKC. But I could care less. My Peke is the greatest dog on earth regardless of her registration.
