Do you agree with Edwards lack of respect to our Fallen Soldiers?

Memorial Day is to honor the wounded & dead of current & past wars. It is not suppose to be political in any way.

John Edwards emails to supporters to encourage them to "use" this holiday to make an anti-war statement. The American Legion has said it is a inappropiate use of the holiday & said it was "as approipate as putting politcal bumper stickers on the tombstones at Arlington National Cementary"

So what do you think? Will you be honoring the wounded & dead? Or rallying against the war & President Bush?

I will be doing the same thing I always do - showing respect

for the thousands who died for my freedom. Politics will wait another day for me.

I will honor all lives lost in all of the wars we've had. I pray for every soldier, and every worried family member. I pray everyday that the phone rings and not a knock on my door. God Bless our troops and our President!!

Because when Bush visited injured soldiers or the families of fallen soldiers he did not allow the media to turn the tragedy into a photo op. Edit: To Wayfarout... Obama has always placed more emphasis on looking good over doing good. He NEEDS such photo ops because soldiers are dying and he isn't doing anything about it. So standing at attention over a casket makes him "appear" to be caring. But in reality, it is just a cheap photo op to take the pressure off him... nothing more and nothing less.

It's no surprise that a man like John Edwards would encourage such a thing. This is a free country, so they have the right to do whatever they want on Memorial Day, but there is such a thing as respect and class....John Edwards has neither of these qualities.

nothing should be put in a cemetary that is political.

but its good to remember why there are so many dead soldiers-war.

I have a backround on my desktop for memorial day, it has the statue of liberty, soldiers tomb stones, real pictures of people mourning, and a soldiers casket.

it doesn't say stop the war- but maybe if someone says that there wouldn't be that casket, those tombstones, or those broken families

What is wrong with making an anti war statement on a day when we remember how many soldiers have died in defence of this country. That is not disrespectful.

What is disrespectful is the fact that despite all of the millions who have died..we still have a government like the one we have now.. still waging wars and in the case of Iraq.. one for no reason other than greed for oil.

We all pay tribute in our own ways.. but no one way is the best or better. I for one will be happy to remember the dead with Honor but will continue to protest the reason for modern day wars.

Edwards is honoring the dead. He is declaring the right to save soldiers lives being lost in a war with no end in sight and no plan for victory.. To protest is not unpartiotic nor grandstanding. The war mongers will use the day to promote their agenda so why can't Edwards promote peace on this day. I have not read anything indicating Edwards is makig such statements and this may be a red herring, but dissent and protest are healthy signs we live in a free country.

I have lived in NC all my life, since 4 years old. I am ashamed that John Edwards was a Senator from NC, I am ashamed that he is "the candidate from NC". He is not representative of most Carolinians !

Be Blessed in Christ Jesus !

This guy has really gone twisted my stick with this one. I suppose he wants the same kind of protests on Veteran's Day too, the blow-dried little sissy. Send goodie baskets to the troops, but don't fund them. Does he suppose the soldiers are going to accomplish their mission by throwing cookies at terrorists? Why doesn't this prissy little boy sashay back to his 28,000 sq. ft. playhouse where he can play dress-up and leave the rest of us in peace?

    Temper...temper...enough venting.

Memorial Day is not a day to politicize one's views on Iraq or, for that matter, any other issue. It is a time to remember the honored dead and nothing else. The idea of trying to turn parades in honor of the fallen into political rallies is sickening. Worse still is encouraging potential protesters to take happy-snaps of their selves waving their signs, as if they were on summer vacation. Evidently, it is not enough to spit on the graves of those who gave all; you now have to have documentary evidence of the act posted on some political web site.

Perhaps he thinks we are showing respect for our LIVE soldiers by acting to get them out of Iraq. Frankly, I think a person can both have respect for fallen soldiers AND make anti-war statements at the same time.
