Try and get legal advice - but one method that has been used is to write to him, and if the repairs are very necessary inform him that you are forced to carry them out yourself and then deduct the cost from your rent - may not be good for relations though, and you will have to check the legalities of it first. But also do check with environmental health - they will send someone out at no charge and they can put legally binding orders on the landlord to have him fix the work. Also they will be able to give you any remedial advice that you need.

if your on a lease..all you need to do is serve your landlord with a remedy of breach just like he would do to you if you didn't pay the rent. That would give him 7 days to fix the problem.

He can't evict you, You can turn him in, he is supposed to fix repairs. Don't let him try to pull any crap. You pay rent, you don't own the place right? He owns it and he has to fix the problems.

be kind landlords are human just so just ask maybe he can advise you and provide materials to fix the problem good luck or just move if it is to much !
