How to get rid of Feline Acne?

Last week I took my 1 year old spayed kitten to the vet as I noticed she had oily black things on her chin, they looked a lot like blackheads. Anyway, my vet said that she had Feline Acne and it's pretty common in cats her age. He told me it could be caused by stress (unlikely), using plastic food bowls (which we do use) or allergies. It's probably plastic food dishes so we got rid of them and have started using stainless steel bowls. He told us to use Dettol but I haven't started to use it in case it could hurt her. Any ideas what we should use? I have read that we should use Hydrogen Peroxide but again, we don't want to use something that will hurt or make the acne worse. Any ideas what we should use to get rid of it?

Update:

My vet didn't actually give me something to give Missy. He told me that he can't give out the medication unless it gets infected, red or starts to bleed. It's still black at the moment and I don't plan on waiting for the acne to get infected.

I feed the cats Innova so they definitely aren't allergic to the food and I haven't swapped over their food in a while. I've only started to give them a little bit of canned food a few times per week as a treat.

Now that you've switched the bowls, the acne may clear up on its own.

Just be sure to keep them clean, wash them at least once a week if not more frequently. Even though you're feeding dry food, eventually slobber will accumulate. I think that's what caused Sophie's acne, since I was feeding out of metal bowls at the time.

All I did to get rid of it was to scrape it off with my fingernail and then swiped it with a wet cloth. Just water. I did that for a week or two in addition to washing the bowls more often, and it cleared up just fine.

I too would hesitate to use anything on her chin area as it seems likely she'd ingest it at some point.

But you could use a mild antibacterial soap to clean the area with - just be sure to rinse well!

My vet recommended using Stridex pads, which contain either salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide, depending on the type. While not all human medications can be used on cats, Stridex pads seem to be okay for reducing the inflammation from feline acne and helping the cat's skin clear up.

While it took little less than two months for me to really see a difference, my acne, blackheads and whole lot of other skin problems I had such as eczema had completely cleared! It was totally amazing...

    Hi,

I am a dermatologist by profession and within a careeer of 10 years I have seen lots of acne problems. According to me Red and white pimples are the worst and painful. Acneprone skin is very sensitive, even if you touch it once the redness will increase with itching. According to me there is no magical way to heal your pimples over night as this is the puffed part of your skin due to the bacteria. https://tr.im/bc9db comes with full customer satisfaction.

In simple words try to improve your diet and have lots of water that helps in healingg process. Un-necessary oily food should be avoided to get a healthy spotless skin.

I clean any chin acne with some shampoo mixed with peroxide and I scrub the area with a toothbrush. If it is really heavy plan on cleaning it in more than one session. You want to avoid scrubbing it so much that you cause a skin irritation.

Besides the bow;s you were usuing, the most likly scenario is the allergies are from the food. I would bet you are feeding dry foods. canned fooods w/0 gravy are what is best for your cat and you want to go with a canned food that doesn't have corn or gluten. Many fancy feasts do not have gluten and that is a medium quality food.
