Should I keep the name I named my kitty?

Uhm.. okay. Yeah. See, I got this new kitty and I wanted to name her "Rummy." (Like the card game.) I decided that the name probably didn't fit her.. So I named her Kiki.

(I play this game called Animal Crossing and there's this black kitty who's always real nice and her name was Kiki.. so..) But she doesn't really "respond" to that name.. And I usually call her "kitty" anyways because I think she doesn't like it. She's black, with this white triangle looking thing on her head and it goes all the way to where her tail starts. So her tummy is white (paws too) and the top of her head and back is black. Her eyes are a very pretty shade of green. (I thought a description may help.) She's seriously, like half-wild. I've had her almost 2 weeks now and she's calmed down.. but she won't go near anyone. Maybe that bit of info will give you some ideas.. Because I'm all out. So.. whaddya think?

Update:

Yay, y'know what? I looked at those names and I really REALLY like "Deliah.." but I think I'll go with Delilah." That IS a name, right? D:

Anyways.. I'll save "Delilah" for my new kitty.. (my neighbor's cat is gonna have kitties any day now :D) I just got one though.. but by the time they're old enough to go bye-bye from the mommy then it should be ok, I guess. Speaking of which, I just realized something.. Would Kiki try and kill the new baby?? :O

Cats don't typically care what they are named and it's a rare cat that will respond to its name. So, name her what you want. I think KiKi is adorable! Rummy is also great. The main thing is to pick something and stick to it. She'll never come if you don't stay consistant. The only idea that I got from your description is Asparagus, because the white shape you described sounds like that shape...I really like weird names, though.

Now. About the 'half-wild' thing...Get some kitty treats! Some really yummy ones! Or just stick to bologna or chicken. Sit rather still on the floor and be really calm, breathing deeply. Have the food near you in a bowl or tupperware. Throw one treat or piece of meat a little distance away from you. When she eats that, throw another closer. Get her closer and closer until she is eating out of your hand. It might take a few days to really get her eating comfortably out of your hands. Once she is really comfortable, try touching her and petting her. Don't overload her by moving too quickly.

Another thing that would probably help her to trust you is to play with her. Invest in a cat toy that has a fishing pole design...a stick part for you to hold, a ribbon part so that the toy is far from you, and a toy as the "bait". (Cat nip on the end toy wouldn't hurt, but isn't necessary.) Flick it along the floor, moving it like a real mouse or bird might move. Just twitch it and pull it along slowly. Your kitty will probably start to play with you and will soon recognize that you're a pretty cool chick.

Just remember that it could take a few weeks or even months to totally tame your cat. Don't give up! If your cat is stubborn, you be more stubborn...and loving!

Once you have your cat to the level of tameness where you can cuddle her and play with her freely, then you can work on her coming to her name. It's a trick, like teaching a dog to sit. You'll call her name while offering her favorite thing to eat. After a few weeks, she may start coming. Maybe. Cat's have their own agendas sometimes! :)

    Good luck!

A cat responds to names the same way a dog will. Whatever you first name it, try not to change that name. It will confuse the animal. Even though animals have no idea what we say, the way we say it has a rhythm to it. And if you change the name, the pet will get confused and wait for it's first name to be called. A dog does this more than a cat, but you can expect the same from both. Oh and about that new kitten, please try to be careful when introducing it to the other cats in the household. Until the older cats realize the kitten will be in the family(which truthfully, they won't actually realize that), they may try to harm or scare the new family member. So try to keep an eye on all the cats and make sure they are trying to hurt the new member.

I'd say keep her official name as Kiki, but you don't have to call her that. Pets learn their nicknames rather quickly. I'd say be consistent and only make up about 2 or 3 nicknames and use them interchangeably so she gets used to them. My dog's name is Parker but I call him bobos a lot of the time...but I still call him Parker so he doesn't loose that that's his name. Remember, cats are VERY independent so if she doesn't respond to her name it could be because she's being prissy and ignoring you!

I think KiKi is cute. You don't have to keep changing her name. Sometimes cats just don't respond to their names. But they always respond to "Kitty,Kitty!" Just keep calling her Kiki. She'll get used to it after awhile. It doesn't mean she doesn't like her name.

i was thinking lucky 'cuz she is but thats kind of masculine and a dog name. what about dropping the k and calling her lucy?? it's kinda unique and every one will ask why, then you tell the story abt finding her and everyone will see how sweet and compassionate you are. you sound nice and she looks like a happy cat. my cat said she's cute and can e-mail him.

We named our cat Semper, because my brother-in-law is a Marine and Semper Fi is the Marine Corp motto. Try naming her something that has meaning to you. Use it consitantly she will learn to come when called...
