what happens to your car if antifreeze leaks all the way out?

are the core heater and antifreeze related in any way, I had the core heater replaced in my car when i noticed a leak, i though they fixed the leak but it started to leak today. I m assuming it was antifreeze, a green substance. I have no clue about cars!!!!!!!

Update:

So if I had the core heater replaced then the leak should have also been fixed????

the car will overheat and eventually seize the motor if you keep driving without water and anti-freeze, if the green fluid you see is inside the car on the floor your heater core is leaking.

    Car Leaking Antifreeze

It is anti-freeze/coolant. Anti-freeze is in the radiator, you radiator probably has a leak or your thermostat might be broken. Most likely it's the thermostat. They are like 10 bucks at the most to replace. The thermostat is on the top middle of the radiator, which is in the very front of the car. If your radiator is leaking, you could try to use some radiator sealers that they sell. My old truck leaked about half a gallon of coolant a day, I just started putting water in because it got so bad. I tried a sealer that costed 20 bucks and it fixed it so nothing leaked out (sorry I can't remember the name of it but I'm pretty sure I got it at a Wal-Mart). If those don't work then you'd have to get a new radiator. Those can be from $200 for used ones on older cars, but tend to cost more on newer cars.

I'd go to an auto part store near you and get a thermostat for your car (need a specific one for your make and model). If you don't want to put the thermostat on the car then ask someone in the store to help you put it on, they usually will at a NAPA store, or have your boyfriend or dad do it, they should know how to put a new thermostat on since it is really easy. If it still leaks try one or two good sealers. And if it still leaks after that, then you need to take it to a mechanic. It might just be a loose hose, but you will probably need a new radiator if it you end up bringing it to a mechanic.

Hoses may also have been loosened when they fixed the core heater since coolant runs through there too. If it is leaking under your seats in the middle, it means the hoses are probably lose, if it is leaking towards the front more, it means that it's the radiator.

Good luck with all of that, hope I helped.

Source(s): As a pre-caution, you should have some coolant in your car at all times. Just keep a bottle in the trunk or something. Fill the radiator when the car is off until it starts to come out. You can turn the car on with the cap off and fill the radiator more, but never touch the radiator cap after you car has been running for a couple of minutres. You can use water as coolant since it is summer time and it isn't going to freeze if you have to constantly refill you radiator. The only reason for using anti-freeze is so in the winter, the hoses won't freeze and burst with water.

It means you have a hole in your radiator still. If the water and antifreeze leaks out, your car will overheat and your engine will get fried.

Take it to a reputable mechanic instead and ask for a refund from the other place that repaired your radiator.

Well, if you have a leak of antifreeze is bad, because antifreeze prevents your car from overheating,

If the car overheats well basically it will stops moving as the metal of the pistons may melt. You have also fire risk, so let your mechanic review your radiator and pipes and take care of that car that takes you whenever you want to go.

Fixing the leak may be as simple as tightening a radiator hose, if you ignore the leak and overheat the car you could be shopping for a new engine.

the heater core is opart of the cooling system it will leak antifreeze

if all your coolant leaks out or if you get to low the car will overheat

    possibly cousing engine failure

Take it to a radiator shop and have the radiator pressure checks. It will show you the leak. As to answer you question, if it all leaks out then the car will over heat.
