I've found that sex has little to do with the dog's personality. Just be sure you are getting adog from a reputable breeder who will spend time helping you decide which of the pups has the best personality for your family.

Things to look for in a good breeder:

1. Asks YOU a lot of questions, such as where you will keep your dog, how you will excercise it, etc.

2. Will want to see your home to make sure you are serious about being a good pet owner.

3. Will have had the parents of the puppies tested for genetic diseases before breeding them. This isn't just a 'vet check'. It is an involved testing process. A couple of things pugs need to be tsted for prior to breeding are luxating patellas and hip dysplasia. The breeder should be able to show you a copy of OFA results. A check into the national club for the breed should give you more ideas on what to look for.

4. Will have a contract for you to sign, and agrees to always take back any dog she bred for the rest of its life, for ANY reason. They might not be able to refund your money after a certain time, but the dog will always be able to come home if it needs to.

In general, the males of any breed are going to be more loving and feel more "special" towards you and vice versa. You know what they call a female dog??? There is a reason!! LOL..I have bred/raised and showedd chows for almost 30 yrs, now doing small breeds such as pekingese, shih-tzu and chihuahuas. for many olf those years i was stuck on female only! Well, about 8 yrs ago I got my first male and love them dearly! I am told there is adifference in black pug verses fawn pugs...black being more stubborn. Don't know what color you are getting, we just raised a litter of 4 black girls for a friend till they were 6 weeks old...the breed is known to be little clowns and these 4 were! Have you chose a puppy yet? if not, I suggest you let the breeder pick the pup that he/she thinks is best suited to you and your family.

Any "differences" are just generalizations. The dogs personality has nothing to do with being male or female. Some people will argue that males are more friendly and females are more aloof but personally, I think that is nonsense. Base your choice of pup on TEMPERAMENT and not gender and you can't go wrong.

the only difference between the male and female that i know of are theyre spay/neuter surgeries. A spay (for a female) will cost more, and has a longer recover time. A neuter (for a male) costs less and takes only a few day for a full ecovery. So if you will have your dog fixed, male would ba a better way to go. Or, if you want pups later on, i would get a female. Unneutered males mark their territory in the house and they will *violate* the leg of anyone who walks in your house. lol. Good luck.

In all breeds, the females tend to be more aggressive and territorial. The males are easier to train and are more happy-go-lucky. Yet, both are sweet as long as you show them that you are the alpha-dog, not them. If you don't show them you're the boss, whether they're a male or female, they'll walk all over you.

I have a male basset and have had and currently have a female min pin. I think it was easier to train the females potty training. But maybe its just my male dog =)

Male dogs are taller than females. I think you should get a male.

My friend has 2 pugs, boy and a girl, and they have their own personalities, but no big difference besides the boy is bigger.

personally i would get a male. i dont know what it is i just like males better than females. one it is a lot safer getting them fixed. i have known dogs who have died from getting spayed. they didnt take well to the surgery. i just like males better. usually male animals like female owners better and female animals like male owners better

Get a girl since you are a girl. You won't have to mess with male stuff.

Please, get her spayed if she doesn't come with Pedigree Papers. If it is just registry papers get her spayed she is probably pet quality unless you paid over $700-$800 for her.
