how do you properly measure a doorjamb so that you purchase the right sized storm door for an entryway door?
I HAVE A 1" X 4" PIECE OF WOOD SURROUNDING THE DOORWAY ITSELF SO YOU CANNOT SEE THE ACTUAL DOOR JAMB.. i do not need answers that say with a ruler or tape measure. i believe i should measure from the inside to inside however do not know if the door is measured from the 1" side to the other entire side or if i measure it from the 4 inch part to the four inch part. when youre facing the door you see the 1 inch part all around the doorway.when you are standing in the doorway and look to the sides you are viewing the 4 inch part.of the wood.thanks in advance.

Measure the size where the door will fit into the jamb.
Most doors are labeled like: 3'0" L or 2'10"R.
The jamb interior to jamb interior measurement expressed in feet and inches followed by either R or L indicating right or left-hand throw. Determine throw by placing your back to the hinged side of the jamb and then seeing which way the door will open, R or L.

Take the "inside measurements" of the jamb, width and height, to the nearest 1/8".
The supplier will determine the size door to buy..

Measure the actual inside opening- When choosing the "hand", you want the hinges on the same side as the entry door's hinges. Make sure the door's knobs or hardware will not interfere with one another.
