I washed a 100% cotton dress shirt by hand (I then hanged it on a coathanger dripping wet. Will it shrink?

    No, 100% cotton items only shrink when washed in a machine and then dried in a dryer.

    probably not. cold water wash is even better.

    Best to buy the shirt one size larger if it is 100% cotton and not preshrunk though. Just something to think about for next time. You will have to iron it too as it will be very wrinkled.

    No it won't, the heat of the dryer shrinks it. Air drying will not, smart move honey!

    Hottest Water for wash, then Dry the dickens out of it. High heat

    no you did it right the only thing you did wrong was using the metal coat hanger it well stretch out the shoulder parts and its very hard to get the shoulder parts back to normal

    not really... esp. if preshrunk. Actually your method is the best technique to prevent shrinkage.
