Beef Stroganoff recipe with tomato sauce??

i know & love the traditional recipe for beef stroganoff. But my granddaughter swears her deceased grandpa made it with some kind of tomato sauce...i have never seen a recipe with this type of ingredient (could be crushed tomatoes,tomato soup,catsup....i'm not sure) Help me out,if you can...thanks!

    500 g beef tenderloin, cut into strips

    2 cloves of garlic, minced

    1 onion, sliced

    10 butter mushrooms, sliced

    1 green pepper, cut into strips

    2 stalks of celery, cut into strips

    2 tablespoons of olive oil

    2 tablespoons of cooking wine or sherry or red wine

    20g butter

    5 tablespoons of plain flour

    5 tablespoon tomato paste or Campbell cream of tomato soup

    1 small pack Beef Bouillon (powder)

    2 tablespoon fresh cream

    150 cc sour cream

    salt & pepper to taste

    sugar (optional, to adjust the sour taste of tomato paste, if desired)

    1) Marinate beef with salt & pepper, set aside

    2) Heat a big sauce pan over medium heat, add olive oil & butter, stir fry garlic and onion till fragrant, stir in mushrooms & beef, stir fry quickly for 1 minute (till beef turned colour)

    3) Sprinkle cooking wine on beef mixture, then add flour bit by bit, stir fry quickly till mixture is hot enough, add tomato paste and beef bouillon, stir quickly, add celery and cook till mixture is thicken, add salt and pepper to taste.

    4) Mix fresh cream & sour cream then pour into sauce pan, bring to boil, add green pepper, toss to combine, turn off heat.

    5) Spoon beef mixture over butter rice or cooked spaghetti, serve hot.

    i found this recipe in the net and tried it . its really is good.

    Beef and tomato stroganoff recipe

    ingredients:

    700 g (1 1/2 lb) rump or fillet steak, cut into thin strips

    2 tbsp seasoned flour

    25 g (1 oz) butter

    1 tbsp vegetable oil

    1 onion,chopped

    175 g (6 oz) button mushrooms, wiped and sliced

    1 tsp paprika

    salt

    225 g (8 oz) can chopped tomatoes

    1 tbsp chopped parsley

    200 ml (7 fl oz) soured cream

    method

    1. Cut steak into thin strips about 2.5 cm (1 in) long. Coat with seasoned flour.

    2. Heat butter and oil in a frying pan, add steak and onion and fry for 3 - 4 mins, until meat is browned on all sides.

    3. Add mushrooms and fry for 2 - 3 mins. Stir in paprika and salt and fry for 1 min.

    4. Add the chopped tomatoes and the parsley. Cook for 4 - 5 mins.

    5. Lower heat, add soured cream and heat through. Serve.

    Don't overheat once you have added the soured cream, or the sauce will curdle.

    Even though you have received several recipes, I wanted you to see this ‘old time’ recipe. It is made with sirloin. Also has tomato juice, dry sherry and sour cream. Yummmm!

    Beef Stroganoff with Sour Cream

    Beef stroganoff recipe with beef sirloin, butter, onions, mushrooms, tomato juice and sour cream. Serves 4.

    2 pounds sirloin

    Flour

    1/3 cup butter

    1 1/2 cups chopped onions

    8 ounces sliced mushrooms

    Salt and pepper

    1 cup tomato juice

    1/4 cup dry sherry

    1 1/2 cups water

    2/3 cup sour cream

    Cut beef sirloin into thin strips and dredge strips with flour. Brown in skillet in half the butter. Remove meat and add remaining butter. Add onions and mushrooms; cook for 5 minutes. Add meat back and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

    Add tomato juice, sherry, and water. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 2 hours, or until meat is tender. Taste and adjust seasonings. Stir in sour cream and serve immediately.

    I had not seen it either but either Maggi or Continental packet mixes for stroganoff have it and they are really nice or it could be Mcormick

    BEEF-TOMATO STROGANOFF

    2 lb. beef stew meat

    4 tbsp. butter

    1 c. chopped onion

    1 tbsp. minced garlic

    4 tbsp. flour

    3 tbsp. sweet paprika

    1/2 c. sour cream

    1 can French onion soup

    1 1/2 tsp. salt and pepper

    1/2 tsp. thyme

    1/2 bay leaf

    1 (14 oz.) can tomatoes

    Hot cooked noodles

    Brown meat lightly in butter in Dutch oven. Add onion and garlic. Brown 2 more minutes. Blend in flour and seasonings. Add soup and tomatoes. Bring to broil and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Stir in sour cream. Heat gently. Serve over cooked noodles. Yield: 6 servings

    BEEF STROGANOFF

    1 lb. ground beef

    1 c. diced onions

    1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms

    2 tbsp. flour

    1 cube bouillon

    Sm. can tomato paste

    1 c. sour cream

    1 (8 oz.) bag stroganoff noodles

    Brown ground beef with onions. Add mushrooms; add flour to make "gravy". Then add bouillon. Turn heat way down when adding tomato paste next -- be careful it doesn't burn. Right before serving, add sour cream until heated. Add to stroganoff noodles. Serves 5

    she may be thinking american chop suey which could seem similar to a child...noodles...meat...sauce? maybe?

    try making american chop suey for her, see if she says thats it or not
