approx cost of ring?

My fiance just proposed to me with a 2 carat round cut that's F color and VS1 clarity. The band is a .5 ct channel set band. I want to know the approx cost of this ring because I really don't want him to spend too much on the ring since we're saving up for a house. We both make a very decent living, but I guess I'm more practical than materialistic since I think the money can be used to buy so many other things than a rock. Any ideas on the cost of this ring?

You could look online at bluenile.com

For the cheapest 1/2 carat setting $975 for setting if 18k gold, if platinum it will be more. Could be $2000 for the setting.

The diamond if certified would cost $25,000 to $32,000 at blue nile, here just one example.

I would say about $30,000 for the ring if he got a good deal on it. More if he didn't or more if it from a designer.

I do not think you should confront him for spending too much, other material items come and go, hopefully 50 years from now you will still cherish it.

I was the practical one and my wife more the spender, but its been 3+ years and I am happy I got my wife a 2+ carat diamond. Be happy.

I know that a 2 CT 3 stone ring is anywhere from 5-7 thousand so a single stone will be higher then that cost. Depending on where he purchased it from how much more it will be.

Before you go fussing at him please think a little about it. This is a ring that you will wear everyday for the rest of your life along with your wedding band. Like your future home it will hopefully be the only one that you ever buy. He put a great deal of thought into the ring and he might be a little defensive if you start fussing about the price. If you both make a comfortable living then this ring is only a little dent in your savings.

I would talk about cutting back on somethings in the wedding since it is only one day and you are saving for a house but, a ring that you will wear for a lifetime, I would let him slide on that one.

Always remember the 4 c's when judging a diamond. Colour, Clarity, Colour & Cut. Ok - so with the diamond weight 1st... 2 carats is massive! Lucky girl. The valuation on the ring itself is completely determined by the colour & clarity. Being that it's F colour , referring to the GIA colour grade, it's colourless. Which is great. GIA grade for colourless is D, E or F. With the Clarity Grade of VS1, means, "very slight inclusions" . Industry valuation of a 1 carat diamond ring with VS1 clarity and F colour is approximately $ 7,500 (US). So double that for 2 carats. You're the proud owner of approximately a $15,000 ring (US). I'm jealous!!!! for more detailed info, look at this site, it gives an easy to understand table detailing lots of info: http://www.myjewelrysource.com/toplevelpages/diamo...

Unfortunately, you're asking an impossible question. From a picture, it's very difficult to ascertain the size of the diamond, so we need measurements. Likewise, we can't see the colour / clarity of the diamond from the photo. And, we're taking your word for it that its a real diamond! The best thing to do would be to pop into your local jewellers and get their opinion as you can show them the ring 'in the flesh'. What I would say is that just enjoy wearing the ring without worrying about its value. Whether it cost $200, $2,000, or $20,000, it was a gift from him to you, so wear it with pride.

It is customary for a man to spend two months salary on his fiance's ring. How much does he make in two months? Does that seem like a good guess for the cost of the ring? Do you think he is going to feel shot down if you take the ring back for something different? These are all things to consider.

WHOA! Not good thinking here! I only knew the price of my rings because I was with my husband when we went to have them specially designed by one of the best in Canada. We ended up paying $2500 for three rings at a total worth of almost $10,000.

It's none of your business - geez....talk about taking every ounce of romance out of it!!!! It's HIS money so don't try and tell him what to do with it. Just be appreciative of the fact that he wanted to spoil you like that by buying you an incredible ring. Most women would be thrilled. If you're to the point of being engaged and still haven't talked about a financial plan in terms of saving, buying a house, etc, then that's a bad sign. You need to talk about it!

it's not just a rock, it's an investment. he wnated your breath to be taken away, and it was, right? and let's face it, you're not going to take it back to the store, it's YOUR engagement ring! talk to him and tell him that if he spent too much, you'd still be happy with something smaller, but let that be the end of it - don't give him grief for spoiling you on one of the biggest days of your life!

at least $12,000, but closer to $15,000. I do think that you should know how much it costs and have the appraisal for insurance purposes so if it is stolen then you are protected. Sounds like a beautiful ring---keep it!!!

Just that you are asking and thinking about the cost is very rude.

What will you do if you found out it cost $1,000? Will you give it back and tell him to buy a cheaper one? Think about what you are getting yourself in for here, and what your REAL motives are....

Gee, I bet he thought he was doing a NICE thing for you.....
