Which provides a better overall cardio workout, a treadmill or an elliptical?
I cannot run, only walk, but have used elliptical trainer in the past. I am considering buying one or the other for my to use in my home. Serious, well thought-out answers, please! Thanks

I would have to say the elliptical because if you can't run and won't to lose weight then you're going to have to do some serious cardio. Using the elliptical allows you to have a very good workout without the stress on your joints that running produces. The other good thing with the elliptical is that you can change the intensity levels, the workout routines and the time which is awesome. Hope this helps out.

I would go with the elliptical. Some of them have optional handles which are really nice.
An elliptical is better at providing an all around workout and there is much less pressure than pounding on the treadmill.

Elliptical would be your best bet. A treadmill will only provide your lower body. An Elliptical will provide your whole body and provide cardio at the same time. Good luck......

I think an elliptical machine. They're both excellent, but the elliptical machine can work your arms and legs. I sweat more using an elliptical machine than on a treadmill.

I would recommend doing cardio 3 days a week and lifting weights 3 days a week. Cardio will burn fat, and the weight lifting will add more muscle which will boost your metabolism and help you burn more calories when you're not even doing anything. For diet: try the books "Body for Life" and/or "The Abs Diet" These will give you guidelines to lose weight and maintain that weight for life, while having cheat meals here and there, so you never feel deprived. They are not hard to follow.

definately an elliptical. it's low impact, a lot more fun to use, and burn a lot more calories.
