What other fish are compatible with goldfish?

Without a bigger tank I wouldn't recommend adding fish. In fact you may want to look at a bigger tank for the 2 you have. Goldfish produce heavy amounts of waste, and require an incredibly amount of space. In good conditions they will easily outgrow a 10gallon tank if you give them room, if you leave them their, you'll only cause premature death and misery for the poor fish.

Hi Winnie, Although you have a new tank I'm afraid it's too small for the two Goldfish you already have, a 20 gallon would be better. I would suggest at least a 40 gallon tank with powerful filtration for four Goldfish & even then it would probably need upgrading sooner or later.

On the compatibility side there are not many fish that will happily coexist with Goldfish except Weather Loaches as several people have already mentioned. Even mixing fancy (fat-bodied) & non fancy (streamlined) Goldies in the same tank is not recommended as the streamlined fish will almost invariably beat the others to the food.

Goldfish are not compatible with mollies or gouramis. Goldfish are cold water fish while mollies and gouramis are tropical. The 4 goldfish are also over stocking the tank. 4 fancies need at least 60+ gallons but the larger the better. You will either need to rehome or return either the goldfish or tropical fish and upgrade the tank for the fish you decide to keep. If you want to keep both goldfish and tropical fish you'll need two tanks.

You will probably need a bigger tank. For other cold-water species, some are not compatible with goldfish and all would need a bigger tank. I would not recommend getting any more fish without a bigger tank, but the best alternative to other fish are the different varieties of goldfish, these include the shubunkin (normal shape but colours include blue, white, black, orange, brown and yellow), comet (streamlined fast fish which needs a large aquarium) and Fantail (large tails) but there are many many more different varieties.

Goldfish get 8 inches long when properly kept, and if you keep them in a small tank, you are just killing them. Upgrade to a 40 or 50 gallon tank and add some White Cloud or Rosy Minnows. Those are really your only options, to add another Goldfish (for a total of 3 Goldfish), you would need a 60+ gallon tank (minimum).

Wow. There aren't a whole lot of fish that are compatible with Goldfish. If you ask most pet shops, they will tell you that you can have a goldfish community....or community fish (tropical mix - depending on temperment or salt water fish) .

Goldfish are considered 'dirty'. Usually, it is recommended that you have a tank with good filtration. They are high ammonia polluters and that is usually dangerous for other fish.

A 10 gallon tank should be pretty good for 2-3 goldfish depending on their size.

You may want to consider other tank inhabitants: dwarf frogs.....dwarf crabs......some of the pretty golden snails?

Shubunkins, Orandas. I agree with the weatherloach comment. They really do help to keep the tank clean.

But yep, I would buy a bigger tank first.

Be warned - fish keeping is addictive. I started out with two just like you and ended up with 35 across 3 separate tanks, all named too! (sadly now only 28 remain!)
