my cat was diagnosed with diabetes?

She is on the m/d canned food and since the dry m/d was recalled she getting the w/d dry, she doing okay but isn't losing any weight, she's 20 pounds and needs to lose some wieght. Does anyone know whay M/D and W/D stands for, does it slow down the cats motabulisum?

Update:

Would like to add, is m/d and w/d cat food okay for cats that do not have diabetes, but just for weight control, not for my cat, but just curious, my friend's kitty is over weight and doesn't like the food that she is perscribed, my cat likes her m/d and w/d, would it be okay for just using it for wieght loss?

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

Utilize the 20 minute rule. Eat ones portion-controlled meal then, even if you are hungry afterwards, wait for 20 minutes to see if you still do. Nine times out of 10, you won’t. If you choose to do, eat 10 per cent a lot more.

Reduce your own stress. Your stress hormone cortisol can be activated by extremely low-calorie diets, intense training, lack of sleeping and day-to-day worries, which leads to a spike in glucose levels inside your blood. More worryingly, it can contribute to blocked arteries and fat increase around your internal organs, putting you susceptible to diabetes and heart disease. The one prescription for this is to… pass the time.

Always start your meal using a salad. It'll fill you upward, making you eat less from the actual meal, and it's approach fewer calories than typical deep-fried or even cheesy apps.
