Ghost Shrimps or Shrimps?
Just want to check with all the people here who have kept Ghost Shrimps or anykinda shrimps.. How long did they survive in your tank/aquarium?
They lived like 2.5 weeks in mine.. Anyone had better luck?
I had good filtration and air pump. I know mine died because of the water quality.. Sensitive little creatures.. Fishes are doing fine tho.

they can be very sensitive. i sadly lost my bamboo shrimp 2 weeks ago after doing a water change and then finding him in the filter casing having just shed, he died the next day. they're super delicate just before, during, and just after their shed. they shed approximately every 2 weeks. so you have to plan your water changes around their shedding!
i now have 2 thriving amano shrimp that i've had for about 4-5 weeks now. at first they were very shy and i never saw them. now they swim up to my fingers if i offer them some hair algae! (one of my other tanks is effectively "farming" hair algae right now haha). also, when they do shed, leave the shell in the tank for at least a day, they'll eat it and it's good for them.
you have to make sure they have stuff to eat and feed them if necessary. they have enormous appetites! mine have devoured all the algae in their current tank. so i supplement with crumbled algae wafers, blanched veges and algae from my other tanks.

I started with 10 ghost shrimp over a year ago now I have about 30 I dont do anything special and they seem to handle tank cleaning pretty good I had to break the entire tank down to move it a few months ago and they have survived. Mine are breeding like crazy even though I have 4 large kissing fish i figured they would eat them but they have left them alone

I've had my 2 ghost shrimp, 1 bamboo shrimp and 1 algae eating shrimp each for over a year. The bamboo shrimp is over two years old.
They need warm conditions and algae eating shrimp need places to hide or they'll stress themselves to death.
Good filtration is also a must and while they do eat the 'garbage' in the tank and leftovers from the fish, I suggest algae tablets to supplement any shrimp's diet.

We keep Red Cherries and Amano shrimp and they've been around for a long time--the Amanos for years now, the RCs usually live maybe 18 months but they breed and replace themselves so we've not had to get more for maybe 5 years now--only time we had a problem was when we had a sudden heatwave and no one could get home to turn on the fan, etc. We once had ghosts for maybe a year, they reproduced but eventually they all died (I wasn't too happy with them since they wouldn't eat the algae so we never replaced them--the Amanos and RCs do keep our tanks algae free). Yes, all shrimp are very sensitive to their tank conditions--sometimes even the dechlorinator will kill them, fluctuations in the water temp, etc.

If you have other fish in your tank I wouldn't get shrimp. If you want something to eat the algae in your tank you should get an algae fish, catfish, or snail. I had to ghost shrimp in my tank and they disappeared within a couple of days. But if you want to get shrimp get bamboo shrimp because I imagine they are easier to see than ghost shrimp.

i keep saltwater shrimp but never frsh water. my saltwater shrimp has been missing in the past few days. i assume he got eaten by my anenome. I have heard of many people keeping ghost shrimp sucessfully for a long time. Do some more research on them and im sure youll be able to have better luck with them.

shrimps will just live 24-48 hours without air, so put some air pumps in the container. check wikipedia for more info.

i had ghost shrimp in a 10 with my betta and when i saw them eating his tail, i put them in my 20 with danios.
they would die after they shed. everyone of them. i figured the danios were doing it, but then i remembered that i treated for ich years ago. most ich medicine contains copper. copper is death to inverts.
it stays in the silicone and seeps out over many years. its almost impossible to get it out without re-siliconing, or buying a new tank.
so if you have copper in your tank, inverts or saltwater is out of the question.
i have heard of something made my KENT that removes copper, but havent found/tried it yet.
