What is a good home remedy for cysts and boils?

I always have at least one cyst or boil that is painful. They come frequently and take a while to go away. Some never do, they just stay dormant. At this time, I do not have health insurance, but I will within the next 2 months. In the meantime, what can I do to prevent them and get rid of the ones I have? I would like suggestions on maybe medicines (over-the-counter) or some natural remedies. When I get them, I soak in a warm tub, but it usually only helps for a couple hours. I don't know why I get them and I don't know what to do to stop them. I have one now that is causing me a lot of discomfort. It makes it tough to sleep and sometimes hard to sit, depending on where they are.

Okay, I have the same problem too. And have all my life. They ussually appear in the worst most uncomfortable places too! First, you can get an ointement over the counter. It's called Boil-Ease. Put that on with a Bandaid over it over night or for several hours during the day. That will actually cause it to "come to a head"... or draw the stuff up to the surface. (Mine ussually make big pockets of stuff under the skin or deep into the muscle). After that, get a damp cloth and microwave it for a minute or so... till it's really hot.. and barely standable. Take off the bandaid and cover the boil with the cloth. Trust me it's not gonna feel very good. Once the cloth has been on long enough it's cooled... take a STERILE needle and punture (not deep) but straight into the center of it. You may or may not have to squeeze any. If you DO have to squeeze, make sure that you start out away from the head of the boil and work inwards (do not squeeze just the head of it... that will only push the stuff back in) That should release the "core", or at least some of the puss and pressure. The core will be a hard mass. Trust me, you'll know when it comes out. It will be IMMEDIATE relief. If it bleeds before that core comes out. Then start the cycle over with the ointment and so forth.

On one's that aren't so very bad the ointment alone may cause them to ooze and dissapear on their own.

Make sure that your hands and the cloth are clean. And the needle is sterile. If not you could cause yourself a SERIOUS infection.

Good luck.. I know how painful they are.

P.S. The doctor will give you a local anethesia, then lance or core them in the office. The home remedy way is much less painful and much less invasive. And you heal much faster too.

Cysts and boils are genetic, you are either prone to them or you are not. To avoid them, use an exfoliating scrub, it helps keep your skin clear, no trapped dirt and such to allow them to fester. Once you have one, epsom slats, which someone else already said, is a very good soak. Dissolve epsom salts in hot water, a couple of heaping tablespoons per cup. Regular salt water is effective as well. Another thing that really helps is a tea bag, as hot as you can take, not hot enough to burn yourself though, right on the area, this will draw as well. Depending where the boil is, a good old fashioned poultice is a good idea as well, it draws out infection like nobodies business. My mom just used milk, soap and bread, heated up poured into a bread bag, then the body part that was affected was put in the bag overnight. However, here are a few recipes.
