Ground, center, visualize World Peace...what more can we do?

As I always keep my contacts open, I get some really wierd ones from all over the world. Yesterday I was IM'ed by one I had never spoke to. A 17 year old boy in Iraq.

I asked if he hated USA...no.

He said he wanted to go to Med school, wanted to help people.

He told me he couldn't go outside, couldn't talk to anyone, and dared not to witness anything (for fear of his life).

Although he said he is in a "tourist" area, where the fighting is light, he still sees death and distruction regularly.

Last week he saw 5 of his school friends without their heads!

He cried out that all he wanted was to be a "normal boy".

He wants OUT of his country, to have a life of peace and meaning.

Even they don't know if it's better or worse that our troops are there.

What do you say to a boy like this?

Please see my comment i made at another discussion forum - Firstly, Islam was not 2000 years before Jesus Christ, it was almost 500 after - before you set about criticising and condemning a race of people, you ought to at least know the basics...i.e. which century you're talking about. Of course it is absolutely catastrophic and intolerably unacceptable that anyone would presume to desecrate my country and the country of my fellow Britons but when saying that, although i say it with great pride and honour at being a Briton myself, i am careful not to alienate or segregate my friends as a result their Muslim, black, Asian, Sunny, Shia or any other minority division. Don't get me wrong, i detest political correctness as i believe it only serves to engulf and stiffer the common debate but i believe before making profound and un-substantiated and volatile remarks, ones ignorance ought first to be brought into question. James.

Look for ways to actively lobby for the end of conflict, increased diplomacy, and sane world interactions... by joining organizations, groups and activists who address this and other issues with more than wishes...

    sponsor an emmigrating family

    volunteer with a relief organization

    Vote

Volunteer with a political org that works towards peace

    etc...

You could dialogue with this boys parent(s) and ask how you can help...

I think the lack of answers indicate that we just don't know what to say. It takes us out of our comfort zone and leaves us speechless. I had lunch yesterday with a man who grew up in Ethiopia. As he described to me the differences between day to day life in America and Ethiopia I found myself losing my ability to respond. I have never experienced hunger. Never. I have never experienced war either.

What I do have is the privledge of living in a country where I can not be punished for what I say. I have the obligation then to state my truth to those who may be in a position to influence. Ground, center, visualize - and write - your newspaper, your representatives, and anyone else who comes to mind and state your position. Peace.

hard question, i would say try to come to America, and you will teach him about a man that says don't kill, love everyone? lead him to the Lord. Thank God we live in America, its not perfect, but its still the best place in the world to live.
