To all my friends at LGBT: When getting 10 points for best answer do you prefer it by vote or by asker?

I like being voted by the asker. It shows that they really asked a question that was important to them (in some way, even if it's silly and for fun!), and they read through all the answers and chose.

I'd rather get a by asker best answer. Because then I feel better about my answer, as then I see it really meant something to that person. I like being a top contributor as well, it makes me smile. I'm a bit competitive but I don't think I'll ever make the top 10 list and I'm okay with that. I'm not here for anything other than to help people and learn. So it's all good to me. :)

I think I generally prefer to have my answer chosen by the asker, as this allows me to feel as though I have been genuinely helpful. However, I've also had the experience of trying to enlighten someone only to have the asker simply give the best answer to whomever articulates (I use the term loosely) the viewpoint with which they already agree.

For example: "Do people choose to be gay or are they born that way?"

My answer: <insert several paragraphs about recent research findings about the biological influences on sexual orientation here>

Best answer (chosen by asker): hell noo it is a choice! they choose to live a filthy and give everyone aids!!!

Gets pretty frustrating after a while.

Getting a best answer is not such a big deal for me. But it is nice to know if the answer really helped the asker. I do make it a point to leave in my comments when an asker chooses my answer as best.

I do like it when I'm chosen by Asker rather than by Vote -- although I'll take the points.... okay, I'm just trying to get to the coveted level 7 (ooooooo, but *don't* choose me. Pick someone else -- like FTW -- talk about shameless plugs!!)

But I disagree with my dear friend Wide Awake about the Questioners letting their Qs go to vote. I'm *not* lazy, I just forgot the time with all that's going on and all of a sudden "poof" there it is in vote and I'm crabby. But no hard feelings. Now I just have to vote on it and hope my choice is the one that get's picked.... grumble grumble grumble. Some others may be the same, but I can see your point about the kids who ask silly questions.

Well, I don't answer questions for the points, I do it to try to help the asker with what ever I can. So, when tha asker chooses mine as best, the points are nice but I like it because it tells me they really wanted help and I was able to give it to them.

I prefer to receive the 10 points by the asker.

I feel the same way as you about the points. I mean, yeah- it's nice to move up a level, or get the "badge", but it's just the internet!!! Lol... not real life!!!

So, with that being said- I do take it personally when the asker chooses my question as best and even posts a little comment directly to me. It's kinda nice to be appreciated!!!

Oh by the Asker, certainly. I like to look at my /mail first to see if I have advanced toward L7. I then come to answers to read the askers comments. I am especially pleased if I have been able to help someone here.

I've never really thought about it, to be honest; I suppose I have to agree that it's better if the asker chooses the best answer,because only he or she can decide if your answer gives them what they wanted, but on the other hand if other members vote your answer as best, you must be striking a chord with their opinions...
