why won't my computer play dvd's?

I bought a refurbished dell with a dvd drive, but it won't play dvd's through media player. Do I need a program for this. I don't want to pay for one.

Try to download and install this codec pack:

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack...

It should solve your problem with playing DVDs on Media Player.

Depending on which version of windows you have it may not have the proper codec (video compressors) to display DVD's this is in part because of software restrictions and legalities. You can download Real Player (laterst) version or VLC player both provide a way for you to play the DVD

Any necessary software for using the DVD drive should have been included with your computer. If you know the DVD drive's manufacturer, you should be able to download all the drivers and support software from the web site.

    Good luck!

some desktops already incorporate the flexibility to play DVDs. basically positioned the DVD on your computing device and notice what pops up, the worst which will take place is that it will no longer play, it is properly worth a shot.
