What was your worst mistake while doing laundry?

I thought it would be O.K to just leave the washer going while I went out-a pipe burst & there was a major flood. Ruined the floor, soaked carpet in next room, huge water bill...

Not checking the pockets of clothes and finding out that there was paper ( like grocery lists ) in the pockets when I find little bit of the paper shredded all over my clothes when I take them out of the washer.

I think the single worst thing, though, was when I wanted to iron this polyester blouse. It just needed a touch up and so I took the iron and just slid it scross the fabric real quick. The iron was too hot it promptly melted a hole in the blouse in the shape of the iron.

When I was much younger, I tried to bleach a few pairs of jeans (to fade them and make them look cool). Well, I dumped half a bottle of bleach in the load and you can guess what happened ...

Another time I threw my red bathrobe in with the white sheets ...

And, oh yes, there was that time I left a ballpoint pen in the back pocket of a pair of jeans. It went through the wash just fine; however, it exploded in the dryer ...

I've also washed my wallet (complete with money contained) accidentally on a couple of occasions ...

When I was younger I wanted to help my Mom with the laundry so I did a load of towels. I ended up using the bleach instead of the soap.

umm...well me and my sister went to the laundry mat b/c our dryer broke so we got there and we started loading all our clothes in the machine and we started it and figures that it was a dryer and not a washer. Then we put our clothes in the right washer and we couldn't get the door locked. Yeah it was kinda a blond moment.

Drying a mattress pad. It melted. (to the dryer) LOL

Also, I washed a chenille throw. Those things tend to fall apart in the washer, and really clog up the lint trap in the dryer. Now I know...

i was about 18 I guess.... lived at my aunt and uncles house. trying to help out .. I did some laundry , washed my uncles underwear with some white curtains that turned out to be fiberglass drapes........ he was not happy LOL ( it put some sort of BAD itchy stuff in his under wear )

letting crayons get washed and dried!!!! A whole load of clothes ruined and hours of cleaning the dryer!!!!!

Funny you should ask. Just today I accidentally poured in bathroom disinfectant cleaner instead of fabric softener. ruined my girlfriend's work uniforms.

I put a wool sweater in the dryer, years ago.
