Deathly Hallows epilogue?

Why are people saying the the epilogue of the last Harry Potter book ruined it? My sister and I thought it was wonderful. I can't understand why people hate it so much. For me, it settled my curiosity about the characters' futures. So what if it didn't say what they all ended up doing for a living? At least we know their happy and that they have families. Can't people be satisfied with happy endings anymore?

Jo herself said many would be upset and disappointed with her ending to this series. I think the main thing is that people get attached to different characters and those characters' futures were not addressed in the epilogue and other characters' ending postions required more explanation. I mean Draco was a nasty little git and, in the end, stands on the platform with his kid and wife. Did he do time in Azkaban for his stint as a death eater? The ending guarantees that this book will be talked about for years to come with people guessing and second-guessing the details. Isn't that part of the fun?

Because most people don't like such a happy ending. Yeah he suffered a lot in his life but it made him a better person. The epilogue just put the happiness factor over the top.

Example: More people like "Empire strikes back" rather then "Return of the Jedi".

People like heart ache, and disaster. It makes them feel better about there life. The old "at least it's not happening to me" idea.

Harry and Hermione together would've just been wrong together! Yes, they danced in the film, but that kind of scene wasn't in the book at all. I absolutely love Hermione and Ron together, I think they're perfect for each other. However, I do agree that Harry and Ginny have no chemistry, but I think that's mostly due to the awkward kiss in the sixth film...and the fact that Bonny Wright is taller than Daniel Radcliffe. I think without the films, readers would've felt the chemistry more, it doesn't come through in the films at all.

I agree. Nothing was better the the end of the end. It was bitter sweet. I love Fleur though so I was most interested in Teddy Lupin snogging her daughter, Victiore. I think thats kinda funny and cute and sweet at the same time. I know, call me weird. Ha.

My prob. with the end though is bcuz it was so vague. It gives up a little glimmer of what we want but leaves more questions than it answers. It's sad really.

It was too vague; should have been longer: Who is Victoire? Who's Draco's wife? What about George, Percy, Seamus, Dean, Lavender, Parvati, Goyle, Ernie, Hannah, Luna, Michael, Cho, and the Death Eaters?

Actually, it only gives 4 or 5 characters a future. I'm pissed because I'd like to know what happened to Luna and George.

people just wanted to be part of the end, ya know? a lot of people dream themselves as being part of the wizarding world and when they were not included in the epilogue, it 'killed it'

i though the ending was good too!

I would have been completely angry if it didn't end exactly how it did! It ended wonderfully minus the death of lupin and fred of course. The epilouge was nice but i wish it was 10 pages longer.

I thought it let the book end with a happy ending but i was unhappy with the vagueness of it. I also thought it was a bit cheesy.

I think people were disappointed with it because it was a little bit vague. but i think this was a good idea because it would let the readers imagine the rest and make their minds wander.
