Are officers in the UK police forces given proper training in "customer care"?
I find many police officers arrogant, unhelpful and some downright ignorant.I work as a field customer care agent for a large utility company, if I treated the people I deal with in the way many police officers act I would be sacked.

The officers have been trained in HENDON. Hendon instills arrogance and ignorance in officers to the extent that even if you meet an officer off duty, they act, speak and think like an officer. It is instilled in them. All the racism, the discrimination, the stereotypes are all ingrained in them and HENDON cultivates a culture of 'we are above the law'.
Somehow the officers believe that they do not have to answer to anyone and this oozes out of every pore in their body. They are patronising, unhelpful and totally rude at times and I know it can't all be down to how they were brought up. Officers are not trained in customer care because they have no customers!! they are trained in suspect identification and apprehension and victim interviewing. Between these two tasks the officers have no clue.
In america the police force ethos is to protect and to serve, what is it in this country? to arrest and imprison?
The worst officers are the ones who belong to a special squad like flying squad, serious crime organisation or trident, they have the biggest ego's ever.
Most officers use standard phrases like "slurred speech, unsteady on feet, eyes bloodshot, smelt of intoxicating liquor" - " handcuffed double locked, checked for tightness, front stack position" "feared for my safety so I had to rugby tackle the suspect to prevent any thought of escape".. because they are robots, trained to think alike and inside the box.
I could go on and on and on about the police...
Officers, thanks for doing your job, greatly appreciated, but not EVERYONE is a criminal!!

The BNP is a racist organisation and whilst has not called for forced repatriation (yet) it has made it clear that a criminal activity would result in deportation. Therefore a white police office (who is a member of the BNP) can fine an Asian for dropping litter and he gets deported. That is in their manifesto and on their site - feel free to check it out. Am I the only one who finds in ironic that this morning the Hitler wannabe was bleating about his human rights being violated. He has opposed this piece of law from the beginning - why now does he want it enforced? I suppose that as of this morning Nick Griffin is in the minority of those that want it kept!! The point is that the police should be banned from the BNP - there is a big difference in the Tory party (one that I dont support but respect) which governs for all regardless of race, religion etc and the BNP that doesn't That said nor do I think it is fair that the names address and details of it's members should be splattered over the internet as it is a breech of human rights (something that I do support)

Well what a coincidence because whenever I speak to a customer care agent for a utilty company they have no idea what they are doing. More often than not they do not leave notes and therefore I have to repeat myself over and over until I get a satisfactory result.
Just goes to show that in any profession there are people who are not that good!!!!!!!!

I am not from England, but I bet there is a reason you are treated a certain way. The vast majority of officers I know, including myself, treat people the same until they deserve to be treated differently. There is no reason not to respect another person when you do not know them.
I would put money down that you walk up to the officers and say "Hey pig, how do I get..."

In Birmingham if you complain about an individual officer their colleagues close ranks and the Inspectors do a good job of covering up, they then start to target members of your family, seems the more arrogant and corrupt the officer is, the higher they climb in the job.

I doubt it.
I had to make an official complaint about one little tossrag in the South Wales police who was really rude and out of order to me recently.
Another bunch kept stopping my other half on his way home from work in the early hours and breathalysing him searching his car etc even though he had a work uniform on and had obviously just finished work. When he said he would complain about this they basically suggested (ie threatened) that they could "arrange" it for him to be arrested! Seriously!
Disgusting.

I agree with you, and many of them should get fired because they are no good in the force. I dont know how they even got the job in the first place.

While I do not condone ignorance or arrogance, some of the so called public are downright animals, carrying weapons that you are aware kill. So you will always get the odd rogue officer.

I agree 100% with your comments, these people forget that they are there to protect law abiding citizens, instead of fobbing them of with mealy mouthed excuses, "Yes , an officer will attend as soon as possible " (this could be a week later )
