Drink orange juice, for vitamin c and water. Whatever you do, dont take aspirin before you drink. It can kill you if you overdo it, or at least make you very ill.

The two main physical things that cause "hangovers" are dehydration and the toxins found in many alcoholic drinks.

Re hydration means more than just drinking water, Drinking water will not help if dehydration occurs, salts and minerals lost through alcohol intake need to be replaced Regular soft drinks are diuretic as is an alcoholic drink, these only help to push more fluids out of the body therefore leading to even worse dehydration.

There are specially formulated drinks that contain salt, sodium and other things that will help.

Next comes the toxins in alcohol, there is a lot of evidence that points to dark drinks, port, sherry and particularly red wine containing more toxins that lighter drinks champagne etc. To mitigate the effects of these toxins aspirins may help.

More worrying than the morning hangover is the long term effect of alcohol in the body but that question was not asked here.

So that's it my words of wisdom

Time for a beer or two

It is difficult to increase alcohol metabolism, the average is that you can break down one unit of alcohol every hour, from the point one hour after you stop drinking. This means for example, looking at the increased potency of today's beer, that if you drink 6 pints and stop at midnight, by 3 pm you are totally clear! this is why people fail the breathalyser in the morning on the way to work!

Hangovers are due to 3 main problems, dehydration, hypoglycemia and toxins, mainly aldehydes. If you drink plenty of fluid and eat a big breakfast that deals with 2 out of 3. The only other thing you can do is take a couple of paracetamol.

The other option is to drink plenty of other fluids while drinking alcohol and eat lots of slow release calories. Alternatively you could try not drinking so much in the first place!

There is nothing you can do to sober you up once you're drunk. However, the best thing to keep from getting a hangover is to drink premium liquor (top shelf stuff), stick to one kind of alcohol (don't mix.. it makes is way worse) and before you go to sleep take 2 ibuprofen with a bottle of water. It has never failed.

Drink a lot of water and take a multivitamin. Alcohol dehydrates you and that can be the cause of a headache. Alcohol also takes important vitamins from your body, so that's why a multivitamin will help. I've also heard of taking a antihistamine before bed. Coffee won't do anything for you except make you more dehydrated and possibly keep you up longer. I DO NOT recommend taking any pain medication prior to bed. If you still need to take something in the morning, then do it then. DO NOT take Acetaminophen (Tylenol). It can cause liver damage when combined with alcohol.

Drink lots of water, as much as possible. Take a couple of painkillers and sleep.

Get them to eat something - like toast or salty or sugary snacks

Re-hydration before the hangover kicks in helps. It doesn't stop the hangover completely.

If they don't have to get up early; don't make them, let them sleep.

I would say drink lots of water to dilute what they had been drinking.

I heard on a tv programme that the best "cure" fo a hangover is poached egg, 2 slices of buttered toast and a glass of orang juice. They gave reasons why like al chemical stuff but it was on a cooking programme anyway.

i find the best thing is drink a hot cup of tea or coffee with sugar, that will sober you a bit and eat if you can, try drinking water as well even though i find that very hard it seems to make me feel worse. in the morning if tummy iffy, take motillum and have a bowl of soup this will line your tummy and settle it.

Lots of water to avoid hangover, only real way to sober up quicker is to be sick and get rid of it all asap.

I have heard that by taking asprin before consumption can really help. I have also heard that "resolve" tablets are good for the next day. Also your body needs vitamins etc so a hearty healthy breakfast helps. If all else fails reduce consumption, its the most effective solution!
