In revelation. That pit, however is reserved for satan. There is an opinion extant that sinful humans will be killed in the pit so that their ashes may be available to be trod underfoot by the righteous. This particular hell is derived from the Greek gehenna as opposed to the Hebrew sheol.

Actually the Bible refers to Hell as fire quite a few places.

    One is Revelation20:14-15

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

And whosoever was not found in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Source(s): matthew 10:28 and fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

There's a parable concerning Abraham's Bosom that's been taken to extremes. Anyone reading it should know it's not literal and NO ONE knows what Johns going on about in Revelations.
