Should there be a ban on Babies and Toddlers in movies rated PG-13 and R?
I went to see Transformers yesterday with my wife. It was a late afternoon showing. The clan sitting yesterday had a baby in a carrier that kept playing with the sun shield, making a noise that sounded like cardboard being ripped. The clan’s second brat was three or four years old decided to stand on the stairs to the exit and screech, whine, cry, and ***** for twenty straight minutes. Mom made a half hearted attempt at shutting her spawn up then proceeded to laugh with the woman she came in with at her brats antics. After getting sick of this my Wife and I told the clan to control their kid, leading to the Father telling me in broken English to say it to his face. Rather then throw down in a crowded theater, I went and got the manager who proceeded to escort them out to the theaters applause and the clan cursing me in Spanish.
Now I know some people will say that Parents need a break too and all of that, and I agree. But I did not pay $15 to go to the movies to listen to these uncontrolled brats. This was a PG-13 rated film and they should have had the courtesy to get a babysitter. I have seen Parents bring Toddlers into an R rated horror flick and listened to them scream in terror at every little thing. I am getting sick of it.

There should be a ban on ANYONE making too much noise. Some small kids are very quiet, while some adults are loud.
Speaking to the manager is the right thing to do.

I know exactly what you're talking about. When I saw POTC 3 in the theaters a woman let her child cry for 15 straight minutes without doing anything.
This kid had absolutely no idea what was happening on the screen and the lady had no decency to take him out into the corridor. Many people were yelling at her. All the way across the crowded theater.
And then, this past Friday, I went to see Bourne Ultimatum, and I heard a little kid, possibly under 4, scream at the beginning right before the movie began. We didn't hear anything from him for the rest of the movie, but I'm still shocked that they brought him into a violent movie.
I think the designated time slots for parents with kids is an excellent idea. It should be taken into consideration.

1) Do you watch movies that are rated pg-13, R, AA? Some PG-13 - I watch more movies with my kiddos - most are G or PG - I see maybe 2 movies/year in the theater. 2) Did you watch any of the following movies: The Dark Knight, Casino Royale, 300, Titanic, The Notebook, Hard Candy? Watched part of Titanic on TV - don't like sad movies. No to the rest. 3) How long have you been a Mormon? since 1992 4) At what age did you get married? 27 5) Did you marry a Mormon/do you plan to? yes 6) How was your Mormon missionary work like? (if applicable) went to France - very satisfying 7) Are you from Utah, USA or Alberta, Canada? If not, where are you from? Denver Metro area 8) Why do Mormons wear temple garments? it is promise between them and the Lord 9) What are some differences between LDS and Catholicism, Anglican, Evangelicalism, and Protestantism? main difference is that we believe in a living prophet and the restoration of the priesthood. 10) Do you believe in theistic evolution, creationism or non-theisitic evolution? creationism 11) How do you feel about the anti-Proposition 8 protesters marching in Mormon churches? it's wrong - there weren't protests in the other groups - Hispanics and blacks largely supported prop 8 too. 12) Does the pro-life position also apply to non-human fetuses (ie. dog owners should not abort their dog's puppies; etc.)? I don't know if it is pro-life or not - but I wouldn't do it. One person I met on my mission killed all the kittens after her cat had them - it made me so sad.

Exactly.
And it is nothing short of abuse either, to have a young child sitting in an R-Rated movie watching sex, violence, drug use, hearing excessive language (which they will repeat). There really should be laws against that. When we walk into the theater and are sitting in a G-Rated holiday film, we can't complain if a single child in the building doesn't stop talking all the way through. It's their movie, and we're just in the audience. After all, their laughter and excitement can sometimes enhance the experience of a family film. But, PG-13 and R Rated movies were not made for these audiences, and nor should they be exposed to them.
We, as adults, also shouldn't have to pay to sit in the theater and have our experience ruined by those who shouldn't be there in the first place. They should have taken the "clan" to see Ratatouille...

I totally agree with you. I've had that problem a few times. Why oh why are you going to have babies and little kids in a PG-13 or R movie???!! They won't enjoy the movie, neither the rest of the people. Some scream at the first moment the lights go out. They cry, they run, they have to go to the bathroom. If they talk, they'll ask a thousand questions. Come on! When finally someone can get free time to enjoy a good movie, some parent bring the gang to mess it up. Some behave, and kudos for them. But the ones that don't can really **** up your night.
Source(s): Yep, I don't have kids. But when I have them, either see some Disney movie, get a babysitter or wait for the DVD. - Anonymous1 decade ago
Totally agree, and here's my story. Went to see 8 Mile when it came out w/ my wife, sister, and really good friend. The family behind us had 4 kids, none older than 8-9, and they weren't even pretending to have the kids watch a movie they shouldn't have been at anyway. I offered morphine, and my suggestion was not acceptable for some reason. Not that I actually had any, but still. And this problem isn't even confined to those that speak "broken English" (ha ha).

I agree! Keep screaming kids out of theaters! I hate when parents take all their little kids to pg-13 movies and the kids scream and cry even without jump scenes.
I was watching one movie and this guy tripped and fell and a little girl started screaming 'I'm scared! I'm scared!"
Kids should stay at home, or the parents should shut them up.

i have discovered two ways to get past this. either go to the local dollar theatre, where u actually have some families think they r too good to go, or try the matinee showing, where the parent's are still at work. when it comes to the pg-13 movies, unless it's a darn good storyline, i don't go at all, because even w/out the toddlers, u still have loud, immature teens in the movie, which is just as bad. but hey, that's what netflix is for.

What you describe is one of the reasons I don't go to the theater to see movies anymore.
These people should hire a babysitter and leave their babies and toddlers at home. They can't enjoy the movie anyway and just annoy other people.

I know how you feel, it's the same everywhere.
I believe the solution to this could be certain showtimes for families with children and babies. Maybe like special pricing or something earlier in the day to make it more attractive.
If they are being distributive the only thing you can really do is ask a manager to remove them.
