HELP!!!! What does it mean when foul-smelling water is coming into my bathtub through the drain?

I hate to tell you, but it is a clog, and not one that can be fixed with plunger. Plungers only work when the clog is close to where you are plunging. The clog you have is farther down the line. You need to call a plumber. There are two things he can do: 1: Run a snake down the line to break anything up and get it moving. 2: Attach a garden hose to a blow bag and jet the line. The bag expands in the pipe and basically pressure washes the line clean.

It is best to do both of these things and in that order. If the problem comes back, which it shouldn't. The line may need to be replaced. But keep in mind this rarely needs to be done.

plug the bathtub in the meantime if possible until the problem can be fixed. If this hasn't been happening from day one, you have buildup in your pipes. If it has been happening since the pipes were new - it is poor layout of the pipes. The first is more likely. Try some drano products. They are usually quite effective. do both drains - the one at the washer and the bathtub as well. If that doesn't work - a professional plummer may need to be called. ----------- I forgot, if you have hard hardwater - try using the liquid product CLR down both of those drains. It will redissolve the salt deposits from hardwater.

that happened to me once..the problem was in the street their was a huge tree...the roots from the tree had clogged the pipes causing a backup..call a plumber first...if need be and its the same situtation as what happened to me...they will cal the City and someone will come right away..start boiling water and try pouring that down the sink toilet and the bath...that could help ..so its worth a try...you can make natural draino with baking soda and vinegar ..pour that down the drains followed with alot of hot hot boiling water....hope this helps you

The tub p trap is failing to keep these fumes out. The vent for this drain is probably plugged, call a plumber soon!

you have a blocked drain line or a septic tank problem that is not letting all the water go to the septic tank or to the main city drain if you have not got a septic tank

Call your water company. Donot shower or bathe in this water. Your sewage pipes could be clogged. Have you tried drano?
