what else on earth can produce a massive electromagnetic pulse ... ?
if its NOT (!!!) a nuclear bomb...
ok, this is not a homework question and nothing to be tested in dad's old garage. I'm just asking for curiosity reasons, remembering that military aircraft are tested how they survive an EMP.
sooo how can one produce a massive EMP without polluting earth....
any idea ?
NotAgain: Oh not again, NotAgain .. lol
well i'm a bit confused, gravity as being part of the solution is too esoteric.
I think its called electromagnetic pulse cause it induces chaotic currents on circuitry which (depending on its strenght) can be strong enough to even destroy wiring in a household.
electromagnetic, cause magnetism is the result of such currents.
yes i know it can influence aviation systems and navigation.

Discharge a large capacitor. Lightning (essentially a capacitor discharge) is a natural source of EMP. A strong lightning strike can kill sensitive electronics within 50 meters of its strike point.

I just have to say that goring's answer is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard. EM and gravitational fields are fundamentally different.
The only other things that I know of are solar flares and a "pinch" ever see oceans 11? You can read about it on wiki

Try Wikipedia under electromagnetic pulse and read the section on nonnuclear pulses I hope it helps.

A pulse is the result of an infinte number of frequencies produced in the frequence domain.
There is to magnetism produced nor is there any electricity in an electromagnetic pulse despite of it name.
What is refered as electromagneticwave is really a gravity wave at high frequency.A basic disturbance in the Substance of the Aether.

Mmmm an underground nuclear explosion...An electromagnetic storm, and a satellite malfunction...and last but not least. solar patch's burst..( it is when, there is a solar explosion that reaches the atmosphere) ..Trust me ,,I know...I am a Naval aviator.
