It is easy to get busy and involved in other things but you are right it is good to read the Biuble every day, the more you read it the more you strengthen your faith and the closer you get to God,you have oibviously developed a taste for readfing romance novels which isn't necessarily a good thingyou then would need to develop a taste for wanting to read the Bible and you could startin this way, I notice you answer a lot of questions in Yahoo Answers, why not make it a goal to answer questions accordiong to God's Word, you will then need to do rersearch of the Bible to be able to give Biblical answers and at the same time increase your knowledge of the Bible and be reading the Bible a lot more often. Don't feel guilty about what you don't do but make small goals and follow them through then feel good about what you have done.May God bless your efforts to use and read his Word often!(Numbers6:24-26)

Here's something that worked for me, but it's pretty time-intensive.

Don't just read--transcribe. Every day hand-copy one chapter out of the Bible. Do not go to bed until it is done.

Skip around the Bible; otherwise you'll get burnt out in law, or in page after page of prose or prophecy. And hammer out the larger books first. Also, alternate some between Old and New Testament.

I have a calendar set up where I copy 25-50 verses a day. Some small chapters I do two a day, and some large chapters I split up over two days. The calendar is formatted so I will hand-copy the entire Bible in three years--1189 chapters in 1095 days. I'm well ahead of schedule, since I started doing it this way.

Trust me, you won't just read it this way. You can't just skim over the 'boring' parts either; you must dwell on each word as you write it. You will be amazed at how much your understanding of things increases when you physically experience each word rather than just reading them.

This is about an hour a day commitment, but by the time you have even finished 10% you will have put so much work into it that you will feel committed to finishing.

Reading the bible is not enough. Understanding the bible is required. Contact The Spirit that made all things first then get a good bible study program for your computer. Ask and then look up what words he gives you. Notice how little resemblance the actual Bible has to what you have been taught.

This is not only your problem, but all of us suffer by this. We are addicted to the Mayik (materialistic) world, since ages of our births and rebirths in this life cycle of 8.4 million species. We get an opportunity to correct and be happy for the rest of our lives which is till eternity, when born in this human body. But we are enured so much to this materialistic world that even when God ( to me Krishn) sends His saints into this world, we ignore them and instead start preaching to the world with our dismally limited intellect.

What we need to realize is this weakness in us. We should realize that God (to me Krishn) has given us the mind to overrule the compulsions of attachments to our hearts. We should use the power of our minds to know right from the wrong. And we should make our hearts to obey our minds and not vice versa.

The task is difficult no doubt, but with relentless practice we can make it possible. And Humbleness is the key word.

  • I know what you mean. Strangely it is our needs that often draw us back to the Bible. When we do that it comes alive again, and again. May God bless you richly as you study His Word,

I wish I could say I did... I used to but then "life happened" that's an excuse and this has caused me to think more about my devotion. I like you pray daily, lots of times, and listen to christian radio, and want to set a good example for our daughter.... so thanks for being the one to call my heart to work on being a better me to be a better mommy & example
