How long is sperm viable for conception?

I mean how long does the sperm actually live after sex? We are trying to have a baby and our days together are pretty scattered. So I am trying to kind of peice it together. I can't remember if it was 1-2 days or 2-3 or whatever. Thanks for your help!

Update:

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for.

Update 2:

We would love to be having sex every other day but that just doesn't happen for us so I have to look at other things that add into conception...... We both have fairly busy schedules and he is gone for work quite a bit. It will be calmer in a couple of months but until then, well at least it is fun trying.

According to a show on Discovery Channel, sperm can live 3-5 days. The egg only lives about 24 hours.

The important thing is to find out if you are ovulating which you can do with an ovulation kit. Then plan your sex every other day during your fertile period. The key is to get the sperm in there before the egg is released.

If you use the ovulation kit, you will know 24-48 hours before you are ready to ovulate, giving you the window to start having sex.

  • i read alot on this and if they are in the right conditions they can live for up to 5 days although the ovulated egg will only live for up to 1 day after it is released good luck im not sure if it was much help i hope it was

Having sex every second day is the normal recommendation.
