If greed and gluttony are deadly sins, should it be illegal for obese and rich people to wed?

Or did Jesus give you devine power to judge others.

"love thy neighbor as you love thyself"

Update:

Brian...it is called sacrasm... It is no less foolish to legislate one for their wealth, or weight as to legislate them on their sexual orientation.

Update 2:

Brian- why don't you read John Stolworthy's answer.

The bigger question is - if 2 people lust after one another, should they be allowed to wed? Should I not be allowed to lust after my wife?

Few, if any, of us have never committed one of the "Big 7".

    Biblicaly speaking (from Proverbs 6:16–19):

There are six things the LORD hates,

seven that are detestable to him:

    haughty eyes,

    a lying tongue,

    hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked schemes,

feet that are quick to rush into evil,

a false witness who pours out lies

and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers

But, to answer the question, no. We should not base our laws (marriage, in the eyes of the government, is a legal contract) on religious tenets. Churches have the right to refuse to perform the ceremony, however.

Judge not lest ye be judged...

The seven deadly sins are not what we base law on. I also don't think homosexuality is one of the seven deadly sins so this makes no sense. Also I'm not sure what Jesus has to do with the seven deadly sins, I don't recall seeing any teaching from him on them.

Are you implying that all rich people are greedy and all obese people are gluttons? Very intolerant and an inaccurate generalization.

Not nearly as foolish. It is an unbelievably outrageous discussion to even have. If same sex couples want to live together fine but marriage is a religious institution.

Sins are to be dealt with you and your God. But the Christian Right seems not to have figured that one out yet. They want to legislate things that should not be, like gay marriage and abortion.

Gay people are only asking for the same rights as heterosexuals have when they marry. Right now, if 1 partner of a gay couple is hospitalized, the other partner cannot make medical decisions for him or her, only their relatives can. But married folks have that authority for each other.

Gay couples can't carry each other on their health insurance policies. But married folks do.

By giving them the same rights as married folks, we are not jeopardizing the institution of marriage. We are merely according to them the rights they should already have.

Marriage is not always a religious institution-do the people who get married by a justice of the peace not have a viable marriage? It is also a legal institution.

I don't really get your point - the first part of your question suggests you're the one who's judging not rich obese people and don't forget the other 5 deadly sins, I'm sure most of mankind would fit into one of the seven.

Oh expensive. enable's see...the place to start? A.) You and the Bible agree that no person is unfastened from sin. in fact, each physique has dedicated each sin hundreds of hundreds of cases. B.) God does not hate humanity. there are a number of cases interior the Bible that say so, no longer the least of that's John 3: sixteen. God created human beings in His photograph. We have been suitable on the 1st gentle of creation. We have been harmless and without sin.for this reason, our preliminary humanity became no longer what you think it incredibly is, yet quite Godliness! If the Lord incredibly hated humanity, why might he enable it to stay to tell the tale? He has under no circumstances thoroughly wiped the Earth sparkling of our stain. He rewards his human beings. C.) Nowhere interior the Bible does it say that Lucifer became an angel fallen from grace. in fact, the Bible does not even call him Lucifer (meaning gentle-bearer). That elementary false impression is present day in Paradise lost via John Milton that's an epic poem revealed in 1667. D.) as some distance because of fact the punishment is worried: "He who spares the rod hates his new child." If a parent have been to no longer even attempt to extra suitable you, to make you righteous and solid, does that make him a solid parent? No. That line of reasoning is dishonest. If my daughter have been to enhance up and alongside the way she went and murdered, lied, cheated, and stole, are not I to superb her and love her together as I do so? We could desire to respond to for our sins as adversarial to apply defective lines of reasoning to gratify the lusts of the flesh. could the Lord bless and shop you.

Why is Gay marriage even an issue today? What percentage of gays are there screaming for marriage?

Are there only a few extremists that claim to speak for the entire gay community? Or is the entire community on their side? People assume they know what others want without asking them.

sins are between you and your diety, NOT between you and government.

power goes from the creator, to you and you give a little bit to others in exchange for "protection" not a really good deal butwhat else?
