What should I do to discipline a cat from the habit of waking me up every early morning?

I want my cats to stop waking me up at the wrong time in the morning. What can I do to get rid of these habits?

Update:

At night, i let my cats go outside, since they want to, and every morning, one of them would wake me up by meowing at my window, and since i have 4 cats, taking care of their wants can be difficult and i cause almost evry1 in my house to wake up. Yes i do feed them but then, after i feed them, they start meowing because they have a different want then. so in order for me to stop this, i'd have 2 find a way for it not to wake me up in the wrong times in the morning. I want the cats to know that i dont want any trouble and want to sleep. This is especially a problem as I go to school.

Update 2:

I'd want them 2 know that they are allowed inside like around 7:00 am.

Cats are not like dogs so don't even think you can discipline them. You might have to lock them out of your bedroom or you may have to lock them in a different room. You could try feeding them and going back to bed but that could start a pattern and make matters worse. If you wake up durring the night for any reason maybe feed them then. My cats do the same thing. I have never been able to stop it completely but if they wake me at 4 a.m. and I just feed them, they let me go back to sleep.

I always have food/water/litter box accessible to my cats 24/7 That way they always have the neccessities available. In terms of training you cat not to wake you up, training a cat is hard. However, once you have made sure the cat has everything it needs, ignore the meowing in the morning. The cat meows because it want something from you (you say it wants to come in and have food). If you stop responding to the meowing, the cat will eventually give up and learn it doesn't gain anything from meowing that early in the morning. This is called extinction in behavioral science, and it takes a long time for the cat to learn. Before the behavior (meowing early in the mornign) goes extinct, your cat will probably exaggerate it for a while. Also, if you even respond once to its meowing in the morning, you probably start over at the beginning again in terms of learning.

Please make sure before you stop responding to your cat early in the morning, that the cat has everything it needs, so it is only meowing to get your attention, and not because it really needs something very important (food/water/shelter/litterbox) right away.

My cats do that too if i leave my bedroom door open; i say close the door but if you can't then i would suggest the use of a water spray bottle. Make sure it's just plain water in a clean newly bought bottle, not a used chemical bottle or anything. My vet told me about this in the past and it worked wonders. Just spray at the kitties body a few light squirts and he/she is sure to run away and after a few times the kittie will eventually stop bugging u in the morning. Water and most cats do not mix.

if ur cat is an outside/inside cat she prolly wants to go outside

maybe her food bowl is empty and shes hungry. u gotta treat em like ur kids get up and feed em haha. My cats do that i have 5 cats and they all run wild in the wee mornings running across back and forth on my bed it drives me nuts!!!! water spray is a good idea i use that only for when my cats are walking around on my kitchen counters and tablesi wouldnt spray em i dont think for the waking me up part i think they just want some tender loving care and cuddle she loves you!

Try keeping a water spray bottle near your pillow. When the cat tries to wake you up simply spray it with a little spray of water. After repeating this a number of times the cat will associate what it is doing with being sprayed with water. Most cats do not like being sprayed with water and will stop doing what is associated with it.

NOTHING!!!!!! the cat might need a wee! do you have a litter! it could be hungry! do you leave cat biscuits out all day / night for it to munch on!!!! there are several reasons it may wake you up...it might just want a pat or a cuddle....animals have feeling just like humans....if you don't like it waking you, find it a new home!!!

Source(s): i have 4 cats. and they wake me too sometimes for a wee or food or a pat.....even at 4.00 am. i love this...cause i know they love me!

All you can do is shut your bedroom door for a few weeks they may stop when you start leaving it open again
