Should the police have released the 71 year old driver who hit the people walking outside the wedding party in

19 people taken to hospital, 6 dead at the scene. I know it was dark and poorly lit, but to drive into a group of people like that? If the road conditions are to blame, then somebody has to take responsibility for that. If the driver is simply too old, then get him off the road. This is not something that can be brushed off as a "freak accident" - there is no such thing, there is always a root cause and contributing factors. What would you think if it was

A: one of your relatives injured or killed, or

B: your grandfather driving the truck that hit them?

He should be tried for vehicular manslaughter. I don't care about the age.

A: I would expect that since the driver was 71, but still driving, his driving privileges should be permanently taken away at the very least, and he should be ordered to make some kind of restitution through his insurance and sale of all his personal property to repay the victims. Jail time as well or made to live in an elderly facility to get him/her off the road, after all, simply paying restitution isn't going to bring back the lives of those who died. If the driver didn't have his headlights on, then the poorly lit conditions should not apply. How fast was the driver going, anyway? Older people should have to have a medical release if they want to drive, just as people with other medical conditions have to.

B: My grandfather stopped driving when he realized that he was no longer a good driver, so I have on answer for that.

I don't think they should've. I know this happened before in California a few years ago. It seems as though accidents with seniors are becoming more and more a common place thing these days.
