Why is my fixed female cat suddenly peeing only on my couch?
I've had her for about 5 yrs but she recently had to stay w/my friend while I found a new apartment. She's never done this before and still poops in her litter box. No matter what I've tried, she keeps peeing in the same place on my couch - even if I cover the couch w/boxes, etc. She'll pee on whatever box happens to be in that specific area on the couch. Love my cat and don't want to get rid of her, but I can't buy new couches every day! I sprayed pet deterrent on it, but still no luck. Anyone have any suggestions?

Just to be safe, you should take her to your vet so they can rule out a urinary tract infection. One of my kitties is prone to them and she lets me know she has one by squatting right in front of me and peeing on the floor.
If it's not an infection, there are alot of products that help with
behavioral urination. My favorites are:
Feliway (diffuser or spray) this is synthetic feline pheremones which sends out a "happy vibe" to your kitty. You can't smell the stuff, but she can and it can make her feel calm and happy and less likely to urinate because she is angry.

Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter or litter additive- an herbal blend that you put in the litterbox that makes your cat only want to use the bathroom there.
Oh! I like Nature's Miracle for cleanup of messes. I once had an intact male cat get into my truck and pee on my cloth seats...in August! Awful. I saturated the seats (I poured like a gallon of the stuff on the seats) it took about a week to dry, but once it did, the smell was completely gone.
Good Luck!

if its a physical problem or a mental problem. thats what you need to figure out.
Physical. easy, go have her tested at the vet's for urinary issues. Medication and clean the sofa.
Mental. Not so easy. you upset her with changing things around. she was separated from you, and now in a new surrounding. If you normally sit on the sofa, she may have started in retaliation to let you know she was "pissed" off : ) Cats have super smell ability. She now knows exactly where it is, and I think its where you sat. (Sometimes they do this on the bed, I consider you lucky at this point!)
I'd recommend putting her in the bathroom with her litter box when you can not supervise her for now. I'd clean the sofa, and treat it to remove the urine odor so she doesn't smell it. And spending time with her.
Try moving the furniture to different arrangements and continue making it difficult for her to urinate there. Maybe introduce new things or toys for her, a window seat, climbing posts, etc to distract her to the new area. Cat vendetta's are not that uncommon. Usually time and patience will correct it, as she still loves you, she's was just uncomfortable.
Lots of luck!

Maybe she likes the texture of the new couch!? LOL! Maybe she is just unsettled and is making her new home familiar. I would use plastic sheets to protect the couch and keep spraying that deterrent liquid. With you soudly telling her off, I'm sure she'll get out of the habit pretty quickly!
Good luck!

If she smells the urine in the same spot, she will continue to do this because she thinks its ok. Most pet stores have urine stain remover, which will get rid of the smell and if there any stain, it'll get rid of that also. Good luck!
~Hope this helps!~

Take the cat to the vet. The simple solution is probably that she has a urinary tract infection. The vet will be able to check her urine for you and give meds if needed. If the urine checks out ok then it is possible that it is a behavioral issue. Again your vet is the one that will be able to help you out, not people on Yahoo

YES CATS CAN BE SOMEWHAT VENGFUL BUT MORE THEN LIKELY SHE THINKS OF IT AS HER LITTER BOX, A COMFY ONE AT THAT...LOL. BUT SERIOUSLY PET DETERRANTS DONT WORK ON CATS VERY WELL FOR URINE!!!! YOUR BEST BE IS TO USE WHITE VINEGAR ON THE SPOT DAB IT UP UNTIL IT IS MOSTLY GONE THEN POOR SOME MORE ON IT. LET IT AIR DRY THEN WATCH HER AND MAKE SURE THAT SHE ISNT GOING SOMEPLACE ELSE THAT YOU DONT LIKE!!! IF THE SMELL OF VINEGAR IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU TRY FEBREZE CITRUS SMELLING SPRAY CATS HATE CITRUS!!! BUT YOU MUST USE THE VINEGAR FIRST IT THE ONLY WAY TIO REMOVE THE SMELL PERMANTLY!!!
FOR STAINS TRY BENZOYL PEROXIDE POOR IT ON AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES IT WILL BUBBLE UP THEN DAB IT DRY. REPEAT UNTIL STAIN IS GONE!!!
