Do you mean how long do you have to walk a dog before it relieves itself. If so it depends. The easy way is to train your dog to go on command. That way when you say the command he/she will go whether it's 5 mins or 20 mins into the walk.

This has been really easy for my dog. Whenever I would see him going, I would say "go potty". Then I would reward him with a cookie and the say the word again (ex. good boy, you went potty) . After a couple of weeks, I when I say go potty, he's goes on the spot.

    Hope that helps.

I'm guessing that you mean how long can a dog hold itself before it pees etc. It depends on the dog. If it's a puppy it can usually only hold it 1 hour for every month of age. So if the dog is 3 mos old it should be able to hold it for 3 hours. This is only good for a total of about 12 hours and that may be pushing it. I'm gone about 10 hrs a day and my old dog has no problem. I crate the 2 yr old so he doesn't have accidents and he manages to hold it til I get home. Once when I didn't lock the crate properly he had peed about 5 times on the kitchen floor...luckily it wasn't on carpet.
